"It's not clear what a 14-team AAC would be worth in media rights revenue. Conference USA schools get about $500,000 annually in their current TV deal. The AAC, as it currently exists, averages $7 million per team. That figure is expected to decline significantly after the loss of three schools to the Big 12.

Even if its 1/2 of the current amount ($3.5M) , it will have positive implications for our program."

I would quit counting our chickens before we know the terms of the AAC deal.   Nothing says we are getting a full rights share right away.

"The American Athletic Conference has received applications from six schools hoping to join the conference, and the AAC is expected to send them each a formal letter by the end of the week detailing the terms of expansion, a source with knowledge of the process told ESPN on Tuesday."

Both the number of schools and the specific schools applying scream of ESPN's influence: six new schools, not two or four and all are in major media markets and not in a Boone, Ruston, or Hattiesburg.

As such there is a real belief that when it all shakes out the current TV package will stay at $12M/school.  If that's the case then the six new schools will effectively have done their jobs.
