It would be a mistake for the MWC to wait until the Big 12 expands again. By then, they would be stuck with bringing up FCS programs.

If they wait around too long to get back into Texas, and lose out on NT & Rice (snatched up by the AAC), they're likely stuck with UTEP/UTSA: two system schools, neither of them funded enough to compete in their league.

The commissioner of MWC just announced that the conference is exploring" the possibility of expansion," which is in conflict with their last " wait until the Big 12 finishes" position. I have no idea if he is serious or just going through the motions as there was no time line mentioned in his press release.

Sounds believable. CSU and AF have been frank about the reasons they were considering leaving, one of those was central and eastern time zone exposure. I'm sure they are working with those schools and their network partners to see if there is any value to adding teams.

The Mountain West is continuing to explore the possibility of expansion, commissioner Craig Thompson said Thursday, noting that he had spoken earlier in the day to the presidents of two universities interested in joining the conference.

“We’re really just looking at the landscape and debating what expansion would mean for the Mountain West Conference,” Thompson said in a virtual news conference. “If it’s something that makes sense for us, we’ll look at that. But really, I’m defining it as we’re studying our options.”

MW athletic directors have been meeting virtually “twice a week for several months now,” Thompson said, as they explore their options following the announcements of recent additions to the Southeastern and Big 12 conferences. The conference’s board of directors, made up of the president, chancellor or superintendent that heads up each of the MW’s member schools, has been involved in those discussions, as well, he said.

That is not a popular opinion sir.   Most here would be more than content to travel with at least 1 other school.

I just remember a lot of discussion in the OLD WAC expansion and Some MWC talk when Boise and SDSU were thinking of leaving a few years ago.  The thought from many Texas schools fans, not UNT if I remember, was you had to invite 4 Texas schools to get any of them.    TCU did break that mold though

So "rumor has it " that the SBC is moving from 10 to 12 programs with Marshall, ODU, So. Miss., and James Madison on their list. I can only assume that this may occur after the AAC reloads.
