Rice would be a shoe in if they guaranteed to spend heavily on athletics. It's not like they are sweating for money. I wonder what kind of conversation Rice would have with a potential interested MWC. AAC has surely reached out to them as well if only to stay in Houston.

Every minute Rice spends in C-USA is condemning them even further to remain here.
Their University leadership obviously has zero interest in advancing their athletics department.  It's laughable to them to allocate any funds away from academics to athletics.   Even a few crumbs could grow their athletics budget exponentially.  They just don't care.

Here's the relevant slide from Altimore's presentation.  I added the two vertical dotted lines to highlight AAC's "lane" with respect to academic rank.  Immediately obvious is that Memphis and ECU are outliers along this dimension.  It's also clear why AAC offered AFA, SDSU and CSU.   Buffalo, Miami-Ohio, UMass are right in the middle of the AAC's lane and Rice would be a feather in the Conference's academic standing.  UAB isn't far off, but there are better options in the four above.  Don't underestimate the desire of the presidents of these universities to "move up" too.  Who do they want to rub shoulders with?  Who do they want to build relationships with as they look for their next career move?

UNT needs to continue to improve its academic standing, build its endowment and do better across all sports.  It may not be obvious to the what have you done for me lately crowd, but UNT has actually made significant progress in these areas since our return to FBS football, but we still have a long way to go.

Any idea when the statistics in the graph are from? Feel like our academics have been leaping up these past few years

It appears to be a formula they (Altimore Collins & Company) have developed.  He rightly caveats a lot of this as being more directional than precise, debatable and subject to change with access to private data.

Here are the factors that went into the two dimensions of academic and sports rankings.

I would not be surprised if the MWC commissioner was forced out. One of the reasons the AFA and CSU gave for entertaining a move to the AAC was lack of confidence in Thompson in today's changing environment

Due to the link he had attached to his post we have suspended him until the end of the month.  Post seems legit but the spammy link he had is not.
