It would be sweet if they finally decided to expand into Texas. Eventually Boise will be gone and maybe SDSU.

Definitely a major setback for the AAC.  You have to wonder now what SMU/Memphis will do.  I still think its absurd to pay AAC exit fees to go play a bunch of games in nothing media markets 1,500 miles from Dallas but at the end of the day TV calls the shots.

OK.  Now I REALLY want to go to MWC.  The invite is gonna be tough though.   I think they may only take two (us & UTSA), if any.

Us and UTSA should be hard selling the MWC on Dallas and San Antonio right now.

Yep.
Get us now, while you can... because if the Big12 decides on SMU/Memphis, then we're definitely going to AAC with UAB, and you'll be stuck with UTSA, & UTEP/Rice (neither are serious about athletics), or LATech (an itty-bitty market, and maybe a little further East than they'd like to go).

Funny thing is, the MWC, after standing firm, may now try to raid the AAC. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they make a call to SMU.

That call has already been made to both SMU and Memphis.  Exit fees associated with leaving the AAC (as well as the Boise sweetheart TV deal) make it a no-go.

All the better. I'd rather go MWC than backfill SMU in the AAC. Of course since we are North Texas we may end up in neither.

SMU wants the Big 12 and so they aren’t interested in moving west and paying all the associated exit fees and whatnot.

Wow.   I started to reply in disagreement...  then I looked at how the teams would stack up.  It's really a no-brainer.  Even if SDSU & BoiseSt leave at some point.

AAC:
East -  USF, ECU, Temple, UAB, Marshall, FAU/AppSt.
West - Tulane, Tulsa, NT, UTSA, Rice, LATech/LALa.
A nice 12-team conference.  Clearly an upgrade for NT, but this lineup is going to absolutely bomb when the next round of TV Negotiations come up.  Would be FANTASTIC for all you "regional" lovers!

MWC:
East  - UNM, AFA, COSt, WY, USU, NT, UTSA
West - HI, SDSU, FresnoSt, SJSU, Boise St., UNLV, NV  (USU slides to this division if/when BoiseSt & SDSU leave)
A 14-team conference would be much stronger, but the payout wouldn't be nearly as much (still more than what we're getting in C-USA).  Smatresk & his UTSA counterpart would really have to sell the MWC on why they should share their revenues with 2 more schools from Texas.

SMU knows that the Big 12 is likely a pipe dream.  Even in its weakened state.

The next two on deck are Boise and Memphis.  If more dominoes fall then perhaps SMU enters the equation but its unlikely IMO.

It’s not that hard of a sell, and it sounds like it may have already been made. The SDSU AD said they’re looking at Texas schools who are investing in athletics. That’s definitely us. He also said that he wants to play Boise every year. Adding two schools to the East accomplishes that.

CSU and AFA want bigger markets and a presence in Texas/CST. I would actually be surprised if within the next few weeks we don’t see MWC invites to North Texas and UTSA (or long shot Rice instead of UTSA).
