DRC: The Monday edition of what we learned -- UNT is no closer to swinging SMU series back in its favor

Questions for Vito to ask SL at this week press conference:

How do you sleep knowing that you are stealing money from a clearly weak G5 football program?

When you are in your office, do you do a dr evil laugh knowing you bamboozled millions  from the university?

How much scoffing do you do behind the other conference’ head coaches backs knowing you only need to put in half the know-how and get paid more than all those other suckers?

Or, "Are you willing to ride Ruder all the way to your next job?"

I don’t agree.  We are a QB away from being dead even with them or beating them.  At least that’s what I saw Saturday.  If Ruder hits Tommy Bush on the opening drive, then the fade in the corner of the end zone on the second (third?) and we are off to the races.

Can you argue that they looked bigger and stronger?  Sure, but at the end of the day we thoroughly outplayed them in the first half and they did the same to us in the second half.  Difference was that Mordecai hit open receivers for big plays and we couldn’t connect when we had guys open/behind their coverages.

“…swinging the SMU series back in our favor” ?

What favor was that ?

Yeah, I'm not sure what he means by "back in our favor". We've never been ahead in this series.

I guess if you cherry picked the right years, like 1990-2006, where we only played 3 times, or 1990-2014, you could say we won 2 of 3 and 3 of 5, but you'd have to ignore the breaks and subsequent years.

Since 1990, we are 4-8 vs SMU.

Since 2000, we are 3-7.

Since 2014, when we began playing them every year, we are 2-6. We won the first one in 2014, so we are now 1 for the last 7.

We've never, in the entire history of this game being played, beaten them twice in a row.

Phil Bennett has improved the UNT defense, no doubt.  The offense had it's moments. UNT played very hard. SMU offense looked like they were in a comma. Heard coach Sonny on the Ticket after the game and I've never heard a coach so upset with a team, after a 23 point win. Dropped td passes, fumbles on goal line etc...said the team was flat. If UNT plays as hard for the rest of the season, as they did against SMU....going to win a bunch games.
