Ok, there seems to be some interest in this, so let's see what we can do. I will keep this initial post updated as we check things off. Feel free to give a suggestion, volunteer supplies, or anything else.

Issues to address:

* Enough consoles to run the tourney in a reasonable amount of time.

* TVs for consoles.

* If it will be out at tailgating, a power supply.

* Entry fee, awards, any expenses.

* Setting a date and time.

* Settling on rules, bracket, ect.

Here are some rules, PM me or post to suggest a revision or addition.

* No memory cards.

* Default rosters only.

* Only current D-1 teams may be used. (No all-star, historic, created, or unlockable teams.)

* You must stay with the same team the whole tournament.

* Playbook must be a default choice (a school's book or "option" ect....should be moot with no cards.)

* Single elimination.

* 5 minute quarters

One huge thing to decide is home/away. The big addition this year is home field advantage. Should there be a coin flip? One thing could be using a neutral site for all games, but we don't know how EA will treat those yet (if a "home" team at a neutral site will have the same advantages of being at their stadium.)

Default 5 minute quarters is probably best.

I'm not sure about the HFA at neutral sites. I'm also think that there might be an option to turn HFA off, so if that is there then I would think that is probably the way to go.

Or how about the team with the lower rating gets to play on their home field? That might discourage people from just picking LSU or whoever is the highest rated team in the game.

Just an idea from an outsider....

Rather than getting to choose your team...what if you were to draw your team from a hat or selecting at random at the team select screen?

That would be fun to do sitting around BSing, but with the tourney, people pick teams that fit their playing style. Also, the fairness factor comes in because of the huge difference in ratings teams have on NCAA. If you draw SMU and your opponent draws LSU, might as well pull out the all fake punt offense (which you might do anyway JayDub rolleyes.gif ).

Everything sounds good. 5 minute quarters, turning off HFA if you can (coin flip otherwise), default rosters, etc.

Also...no "cheesing" please. For example, choosing Missouri, selecting a deep route with 4 or 5 receivers, letting them go way out, and running Brad Smith out of the pocket into the open field for at least 10 yards every time.

I've lost some very frustrating games to people who do stuff like that. <_<

I can't really donate my XBox for the cause. I finally got a mod chip in it (and it is great!!), and it can slip off very easily with the slightest movement. I do think Erin might consider donating it for something like that though. Also, I never know if I can make it to things during school. Hopefully I will be able to make it to this, cause it is my favorite sports game of all time.

I change my style depending on the situation now...sometimes I go with the "All Fake Punt Offense"...sometimes I go with an "All Fake Spike Offense".

I was thinking that the tournament could be held on a Friday night with the championship being played Saturday a couple of hours before the game. I don't want to wait too long though, so I'm just putting the first two home games.

Possible dates w/ a home game:

September 10-11 (FAU weekend)

October 1-2 (MTSU weekend)

Or we could have it somewhere, depending on the number of participants, before the season starts. I would volunteer my apartment, but I am moving out of Denton at the end of July. Maybe get a conference room in a dorm? Just an idea, feel free to throw them around with me.

How about a 16 team single elimination tourney starting at 10 AM on Saturday Spetember 11, and we should be through in plenty of time (at the least two hours) before kickoff that night against FAU.

The last things we need to clear up:

1 ) Power source - stebo, eric, the usual suspects bring generators, but we may have to look elsewhere if theres will be maxed out.

2 ) Cover if necessary - it may rain, it may be 110 degrees, cover may be necessary.

3 ) Do we want a trophy, prizes, entry fee, proceeds to go toward something, any ideas on this?

and uh...we should wait on Bryan316's console consent...

And who was it that volunteered my 'Cube, hmm? <_<

I'm most likely getting the game on the PS2, but I'll bring my GCN if someone else brings their copy of the game. Now to swipe it from home...

I can bring my PS2 with Game. Please let me know ahead of time on date since I'll be traveling this Fall quite a bit due to SWIBC Director responsibilities.

Also please keep entry fee down below $10, so I do not have to donate to much to the true Gamers. biggrin.gif

How would we do sign ups? Only people who sign up on the board get in? Or are we going to leave some spots open for people at tailgating who didn't sign up on the board?

Posted

How about a small entry fee.  Most or all of the proceeds going to the tailgaiting fund.

How about 5 dollars? That is pretty much standard for game tournaments. With 16 teams, that's 80 bucks.

I was thinking a cheap prize (used bowling trophy or something funny) could go to the winner. A donation could be made to whoever lets us use their generator and/or shade.

PM me if you have an idea for the rest...I have one and if nobody has a better one, I will go with it.

Is that date good for everyone? FAU gameday, starting a 10 am to...?

How about the winner gets $10 and runner up gets their $5 back? Then we can donate the rest to whoever lets us use their generator and whoever bought food.
