Why North Texas Will Win

At least there’s a whole lot of experience in place for the Mean Green to be a whole lot better, and it’s all helped by new defensive coordinator Phil Bennett.

It’s the offensive side that should be the difference-maker. The D will give up points and yards, but the O will get them back and then some against the Demon defense. The Mean Green led Conference USA in rushing, passing, and it’s all about to keep on going.

The Northwestern State defense allowed 473 yards per game, and it’ll give up at least that many to the Mean Green attack.

We will win big.  The comments about the defense are ridiculous and strictly based off of last year.  I really think this defense is about to surprise a lot of people all year long.

I think the defense holds and we hang 50 on this team.

All I will say is that we better blow these guys out or we face a strong probability of getting pounded badly for the 6 games that follow. 
 

If it’s truly different around here, the following games will show us that. Don’t get blown out and look like a turtle against SMU. Don’t get manhandled at the LOS by UAB. Those two opponents are the barometer for how this season goes, IMHO.

Depends when they score. End of the game if we have backups in not as worried as if they score early and often

      Dept. of Education says Title IX applies to payments to athletes (NIL)

      Let’s be honest Title 9 is the dumbest ruling ever and always has been. I am all for women’s sports, I am all for schools offering scholarships for those sports if they choose to. Requiring every school to have an equal number of scholarships when football takes 85 is so beyond crazy, and this is crazier. Something meant to benefit female athletes has clearly been detrimental for men’s sports. We are not the only school who doesn’t have men’s soccer or baseball because of it, although someone has posted here before that’s not what’s stopping a baseball program from starting. We have 100x a chance of placing a player in the pros (or USMNT) in soccer and baseball yet we don’t have those programs. Truly makes no sense.

      A plea to our "football-only" fans

      😂 All those schools you mentioned have significantly more football accomplishments than UNT and frequent (sometimes deep) entries into NCAA tournament. It is just a bad comparison. You can expect to microwave fan support on a level with those schools from one NIT title which at best (perception wise) makes you no better than 30-20th basketball team that year with your stars and coach leaving the team before the next season. I make 4 out of 6 Saturday Football games a season. I like being outside in good weather. I don’t live in Denton and the last thing I want to do after work is drive for an hour in rush hour traffic to get to a volleyball or basketball game. I suspect the average alumni that doesn’t live in Denton or border city feels the same way. I made a home game the year they won the NIT and preceding season. The SuperPit needs work, concessions food wasn’t good with long lines to get it. I guarantee the fan experiences at the home basketball arenas of the teams you mentioned aren’t like that.

      Best UNT BBall team ever?

      I think we’re a good team that’s trending up. An at large bid is unlikely…we’d have to win all/most of our games, strong showing in the Conference Tourney, and have no surprise teams taking any auto bids. NIT is still a GREAT tournament. It doesn’t get the media hype, but it’s good basketball.

      I never said bad. Your post proves my point. We lost all the games that we needed to win to prove we are a very good team. This is a good team. Just not great, as your post demonstrates. As others have pointed out, those losses mean NIT at best unless they win the conference tournament.
