I think Freshmen now have 8 years

Sophomores: 7 years

Juniors: 6 years unless they get injured, then 8

Seniors: can play into their 40s

And………

Get paid for N.I.L.  Pretty good gig.

NWKGREEN is right. The NCAA has made this situation very confusing. Hardship waiver/medical redshirts give players an extra year but it doesn’t “freeze” a player’s grade classification. Same for the COVID year. They all get an extra season if they want but they still advanced forward a grade classification.

So in essence Ruder will get 3 seasons where he will be classified as a Senior or “5th” like our seniors from last season who took advantage of the Covid year. Should he go forward with all of his years of eligibility.

Question ?  Can a player go to the Transfer Portal more than once - from one school to another to another ?

I want Aune to somehow acquire an extra year of eligibility so we can have a 30 year old QB in 2023.

He will still be eligible in 2023 due to players getting an extra year due to COVID. For the next 3 seasons, any player listed as a senior will have the option to come back for an extra season of eligibility due to COVID “freezing” everyone’s eligibility last season. Any player who comes back for this extra season will have their grade classification on the roster listed as “5th”.

So anyone on our roster listed as a senior actually has one more year of eligibility. Those listed as “5th” are truly the only ones in their last season of eligibility.

Yes. If a player is going from one FBS school to another, he is eligible to compete immediately without sitting out a season. If the player transfers from one FBS school to another for the second time, that time he would have to sit out a season.

It’s unclear if this applies to grad transfers. Grad transfers used to be able to transfer without sitting out a season any amount of times as long as they 1. Had a degree and 2. Still had eligibility left. For example, one of our basketball players, Jeremy Combs, was a grad transfer at LSU in 2017-2018 where he was immediately eligible, spent most of that year injured, got a redshirt for being injured, then grad transferred to Texas Southern in 2018-2019 where he was again immediately eligible. Not sure if grad transfers can still do that.
