Well fall camp starts this week, and I'm fairly excited. I have to tamper my excitement and expectations at times though...

Some points that should be interesting in the next few weeks:

1. Which freshmen stands out

2. Who starts; Aune or Ruder

3. Who makes the most impact; Adaway or Torrey

4. Does McCrae evolve into the DE we thought he would be

5. Can Shorter become WR1 after last year

6. Who has the best chance to break out

7. Does Bennett's new system work

Feel free to add more below and discus

5. Can Shorter become WR1 after last year - Yes

6. Who has the best chance to break out - WR from Greenville

1.   With as poorly as our secondary played last year, I would not be surprised to see Dillion Williams jump in and play at a high level like Upton Stout did last year...   Dark Horse: Gabe Blair at Anterrious Gray's former spot.

2. Aune will have the chance to start.  He's gonna kill NW St., but if he sucks VS SMU (turns over the ball), Littrell will give Ruder a chance to win the job.   If Aune does well against SMU, he'll likely start for the remainder of the year.

3. Littrell loves Torrey.   If Torrey can catch, he's going to be an extremely versatile weapon for the offense this year.   Adaway is a fun guy to watch, and will have big games for sure.  But I think Torrey will impact the offense a little more.

4. McCrae is packing on pounds to move inside.   He's got a lot of competition in there just to see the field, because I doubt Hutchings from JUCO, and Enoch Jackson from Arkansas came here to sit. The Ends are the Murphy twins, and they are going to be handfuls.  I'm excited to see their development in a new system.

5. I think Shorter can be a very good WR1.    He's not going to replicate Darden's #s though, so as long as the expectations are framed correctly, I think he's going to have a really great year.

6. We all better hope it's Aune.   EDIT:  But after thinking about it, I'm gonna say Upton Stout will have a Kemon Hall-like season.  He's my "Break Out" candidate.

7. This is the $100,000 question.   I don't know that it could get much worse than last year's utter confusion on the defensive side.  But will the improvement Bennett brings be enough to win games?  We'll see.

1. Gabe Blair

2. Ruder

3. Adaway

4. He will be a rotational contributor

5. Yes (he or Simpson)

6. The Defense

7. It will improve things to the tune of 31ppg and more turnovers created

Players and coaches have been raving about Gabe. Now I don't think he gets significant PT, but he should be a huge piece next year. Caleb Johnson is the other one.

1. Which freshmen stands out Gabe Blair

2. Who starts; Aune or Ruder Ruder taking over halfway through the First Game

3. Who makes the most impact; Adaway or Torrey Torrey, not because he is the better runner, but because we will use him in the slot as well.

4. Does McCrae evolve into the DE we thought he would be No only because he will be a DT and not a DE

5. Can Shorter become WR1 after last year Can he? Yes, Will he, i don't think so. I see the ball being spread around and this team not really having a WR 1 like in years past.

6. Who has the best chance to break out  Not a break out per say because he was good last year, but I think Upton Stout can be a All Conference Player this season.

7. Does Bennett's new system work Yes but it wont be without some growing pains. I think we will be ranked around 95th this year (big improvement from being last)and next year will be about mid-pack NCAA-wise.

My early prediction is that NT will be a lot better than most think.

Most of the prognosticators are putting way too much weight on last year's results.

If any bothered to look behind the scores, I think that they would see that NT was hurt a lot more by the virus than most of their opponents.   Even if you do not agree, there can be no debate about the coronavirus factor substantially altering last year results.

If it is that close Ruder needs to be starting. Aune has been around long enough and the staff knows what he can do. If it is close for Game 1 then start Ruder and see if he can be as good as we hope he can be.
