What’s good for North Texas football is good for the state

Rather than sorting through the broadcast rights and conference contracts, we’d like to offer a few suggestions on what the goals should be. We hold out hope for an outcome that is good for the state of Texas, for North Texas and for fans. When all this shakes out, we’d like to see a solution that preserves (or restores) historic rivalries, and doesn’t leave significant Texas schools behind.

We would like to see a system that guarantees that Texas A&M plays Texas, Texas plays Oklahoma, SMU plays TCU, and Texas Tech plays Baylor. Up north, the bedlam game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State should continue. And for good measure, please don’t mess with the Grambling State-Prairie View A&M rivalry, either.  There are state and regional factors to consider, too. What’s good for North Texas football is good for the state.

How perfectly North Texas (the university) to have the DMN write a story about how what’s good for North Texas (region) is good for the state, then not mention us…

The "North Texas" in the editorial are references to the region, not the mighty Mean Green. Based on the lack of mentions, the DMN doesn't think North Texas football includes North Texas.

Except playing SMU doesn't do anything for TCU. Nobody watches that. TCU can get the same numbers from playing members of their current conference or just about anybody else of merit. Sure, it helps SMU out immensely, but it's still not gonna pull eyeballs in the metroplex any more than their current slate. These historic rivalries are dead. They might as well be advocating we re-build Reunion Arena to house these games.

When they play, though, the local Media acts like the Iron Skillet is some awesome rivalry that stops DFW down…

All this is nothing a 10 year Mean Green football season winning streak couldn’t help solve.  ••• A 2’nd round (minimum) NCAA March Madness win this basketball season could go a long ways, too.  

I’m as guilty as anyone, but we seem to expect long term respect can be based on short term success?

Apparently, this is all about football only (or so we read). Grant McCasland made history last year and Im Looking forward to what he can do with a new roster full of players he’s recruited here, but this upcoming season will probably be a tough one to duplicate our success from last year. CUSA always has 1-2 teams that are very good and capable of winning a game or two in March. While I want that to happen here, I know that the programs at WKU and UAB aren’t gonna sit down anytime soon.
