My guess was that Trautwein started getting recruited from North Texas illegally early;  that is, if there even is such a thing as “illegal” in this woke progressive era I think we’re beginning to see happen now at the intercollegiate level.  Of course, some schools will take total advantage of this “everything goes” era especially those who are expertise & have probably been doing it all along

Yet I think the recruiting of Hope began after her fabulous record-breaking feat that got more national publicity for her & the Mean Green than some other schools could probably stand us getting.  That coupled with the 1’st round win over the #20 nationally ranked Purdue Boilermakers in March Madness may have pushed some of our rivals over the top? (I do jest since they could care less).🙄•••Yet we should do even more of this & for crissakes don’t stop now. I think we’ve all found that success can be fun. 

The NCAA has all but gone the direction of the U.S. Supreme Court inasmuch as you have no idea from one day to the next what the “W” Bush appointed Chief Justice John Roberts & his fellow celeb Supremes are going to come up with next. (No Bush fan here if you can’t tell). 

Still...UNT has no idea how lucky we are to have “In Wren We Trust” Baker as our AD & this quote from him proves it even more: 

“We’ll adapt and change,” UNT athletic director Wren Baker said. “Because of the experience we’re providing and the investments that we’ve made in facilities and infrastructure, North Texas is poised to gain just as much as we are losing in the portal. My hope is that over the course of time that the portal would be a net positive for us.”

•••Well Mr. Baker, with our location with real estate room for expansion, our P-5’ish venues, our extremely diversified & burgeoning student body, I think UNT’s upside will continue to go (where else)—no where but northward. 

•••North Texas is lucky alright & I hope we can keep WB around as much as anyone on that campus.  That’s where even better attendance would help, fellow Mean Green’ers, & that for everyone over at the Mean Green Village with all its men & women’s varsity teams.

      ‘26 S Ricky Giles - SOC

      It's never my intent to beat up on a kid publicly. I'd rather read both the pro's and con's of a kid; instead of the usual "superlatives" only of a recruit. (Funny how we never see a bad Hudl) In fact, I generally discount about 25% of what I read about our recruit(s); depending on source. I'm a little more familiar with Giles having followed his HS career at SOC. Purdue came by the school last year and offered damn near the whole defense when Ricky was a soph. (About 10 mid-high majors came by this week) As you may be aware, schools are reneging more and more on high school kids that they may have offered early. Not saying that they may have pulled their offer but I would not be surprised. Purdue has brought in 3 safeties during this portal period. (lost 2) with a total 31 transferring in. Many of the top P4 programs generally don't lose this many. The movement of kids up and/down in the portal just proves to me that there isn't much difference (P4 vs P5) in talent outside of the top 20-30% of the roster. I'm ok with Giles but like to see more urgency to win now with portal kids than high school kids. (Unless they are "Elite)

      Should we add Texas State to the AAC?

      Baseball would be more than another sport. It is a spectator/revenue sport, unlike track, tennis, swimming and golf. We need something in the spring, more than softball, to engage fans back to campus. Fans are becoming more detached from actually attending sporting events at the school = less interest = less donations. If we're not going to market better for football and basketball at least have another sport in spring to lure fans to come back.

      Rule Changes to NCAA Football

      I hate how long instant replay takes in all sports that use it. Instead of waiting for certainty before making a call, they should look at replays for a set amount of time. When that time runs out, treat it as "the call stands."

      Should we add Texas State to the AAC?

      And you followed that up with back-to-back losing seasons and are a hair above .500 this season. We followed it up with a 31 win season, a 19 win season, and are well on the way to another winning season. I respect what y'alls football program has accomplished recently but your basketball program has been sputtering in neutral. Much like our football program. I wouldn't call your basketball a strength right now.
