I feel like Brelan had Jaelon-level talent. I’m not sure why he didn’t stick with the Chargers.

Not as much twitch, but faster north-south.  I would believe it if Brelan was stronger, too.

If you really want to dig into this, you could make a case that this is simply about what the NFL needs.  Brelan's speed at the college level was unreal, but when you're in the NFL.....everyone has speed.  So they're gonna look for other things, like height, or whatever.

I think it's that "twitch" that Jaelon has that give him that edge.  The league has few WRs who can make that first guy mis in the middle of the field.

Yes

If I remember right, Derek is from Glen Rose.  This gets him closer to home (~ 1/2 as far as it was from Sherman).

Don't think DT was even considered. Sherman made a pretty quick hire getting Allen's DC Cory Cain as new HC.
