BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuenteannounced several additions to Tech's football player personnel and recruiting staffs on Thursday. Beau Davidson has been promoted to director of recruiting, Leah Joseph joins the staff as director of on-campus recruiting and Lino Lupinetti will serve as assistant director of personnel and recruiting.
 
Davidson originally joined Tech as an offensive quality control coach in 2018 and spent the 2020 campaign as assistant director of player personnel. The Katy, Texas native has been instrumental in helping the Hokies land numerous talented players from across the country. During his stint as a quality control coach for the Hokies, he worked closely with Vance Vice and Tech's offensive line unit. He joined Tech after spending the 2017 season as defensive coordinator at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. 
 
He spent the 2010-16 campaigns in the Texas high school coaching ranks, working in a variety of coaching roles across the state, in addition to teaching chemistry and special education classes. In 2009, he served as defensive line coach at Northeastern State University where current Tech offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsenwas the offensive coordinator at the time. Davidson's resume also includes a stint at Trinity Valley Community College in 2008 after serving as a graduate assistant at his alma mater of North Texas in 2007. A three-year letterman at North Texas, Davidson played tight end and served as a long snapper for the Mean Green.

Beau's grandfather Merle was actually the first person with whom I ever talked about Mean Green football. He ran the AJ Foyt Chevrolet dealership in Houston and had his son Greg's Houston Oilers and North Texas (Flying Worm) helmets on display in his office. Greg had played his Mean Green collegiate career under Hayden Fry and his pro career under Bum Phillips and his proud father was always willing to brag about him and share stories.

Merle passed in 2015 after a lengthy career as the Rolls Royce distributor for Houston, but it's great to read his continuing family legacy as his grandson Beau advances in his career.

BLACKSBURG — Beau Davidson, Virginia Tech’s director of recruiting, is heading back home, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. 

The Katy, Texas, native who helped the program make in-roads into his home state has accepted a position as director of recruiting with Texas Tech.

Davidson was in his fourth season with the Hokies and first as director of recruiting. He spent two years on staff as the team’s quality control coach working primarily with the offensive line. The North Texas alum worked at the collegiate and high school levels in Texas before coming to Blacksburg.

      Do I need to go into another rant about how we didn't start our endowment fund until 1974 or 75. It was AGAINST OUR CULTURE TO RAISE OUTSIDE MONIES. When we finally caught on, we were 84 years behind just about everyone else. BUT most of the administrators still didn't want North Texas to change. Around the time that "Jitter Nolan" and Hayden Fry arrived we were the complete opposite of SMU. They loved their money, and we loved our bureaucracy. And that is mostly still true today. SMU resents that they were punished for what just about all the other SWC schools were doing. And that is somewhat valid. But my assessment of what went down starts with the fact that everyone dislikes and/or hates SMU and it culminated with their ham handed, and arrogant, system of paying players. SO, once again, SMU was treated unfairly, but they pretty much brought it on themselves. Just about everyone hated you then.......and pretty much still does.

      Any Word on DC Candidates?

      That was actually for 2017. I looked at the wrong year... they were 79th for 2018-2019 calendar year. Middle of the pack in the ACC.       First College Net Rankings released

      that Jan 5 game is setting up to be super important as it's looking like possibly our only other shot at a Quad 1 win. plus for some of you, it could be a convenient stop on your roadtrip...looks like Memphis is about a third of the way to DC...might wanna get on the road after the game to catch the daytime reunion activities, but either way I'm sure the party will be going well into the night

      Good point. And I guess that's why ASU only played 11 games....as they had a game with Liberty cancelled.
