DENTON – Mike Bloesch has been promoted to offensive coordinator and primary playcaller, head coach Seth Littrell announced Thursday. Bloesch will continue as the team’s offensive line coach in his new role.

Mike Bloesch

“Coach Bloesch has earned this opportunity,” Littrell said. “He was such a big part of our success offensively last season and is one of the brightest young offensive minds in the country. I’m very excited to see him continue to build on the foundation we have here to become more explosive and efficient offensively.”

Bloesch served as a co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2020, his first season in Denton, helping guide the Mean Green to the eighth-ranked total offense in the nation in 2020, averaging 513.2 yards per game, and averaged 6.59 yards per play (22nd-best in FBS). Bloesch, while leading a major turnaround along the offensive line, helped guide the Mean Green to 34.4 points per game, which ranked 23rd in the country. UNT's passing attack ranked 25th in the country at 283.0 yards per game, and the rushing attack ranked 13th nationally at 230.2 yards per game. Senior wide receiver Jaelon Darden had an All-America season, earning honors from every major outlet/awards group at either first or second team levels. Darden caught 74 passes for 1,190 yards and 19 touchdowns in just nine games, and was named the Conference USA Most Valuable Player.

The Mean Green are set to open spring practice on March 1, and kick off the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4, with a non-conference game against Northwestern State from Apogee Stadium in Denton.

2021 football season ticket renewals will be available through the Mean Green Athletics Ticket Office beginning in the coming weeks. Season ticket holders will receive notification of their invoice via the email address on file with the ticket office. Please note that invoices will be based on seating from the 2019 season. Fans interested in becoming new season ticket holders for the 2021 season may fill out the form HERE to have a North Texas athletics representative follow up with them. Any ticket-related questions may be directed to the Mean Green Athletics Ticket Office via email at ticketoffice@unt.edu or by phone at (940) 565-2527.

Isn't it out of the norm for the O-line coach to be the OC?

Edit: Wow, lot of hate just for asking a simple question. LOL

Nope. He was calling a lot of the plays last year and Im sure Seth will still be heavily involved. He also probably got a raise with the new title. Hope we can keep him for a couple of years.

Not as rare as you might think. Mike Leach was an OLine coach/OC before he moved to QBs and OC. Also Mike Sherman was a big OC who was an Oline coach.

Bloesch is going places.    Glad he's here.   Not sure how long though.

Sure this played a part in his promotion. He is doing a great job. Having him as an OC and being able to raise his salary will hopefully keep him here a little longer.

As I understand it, he's already gotten other offers and this move was precisely done to keep him here.

Hope y'all are ready for the Briles offense. Fast as hell, deep shots, bubble screens, and power/trap run game.

I gotta think it will be some kind of hybrid.   I doubt Littrell just hands his baby over to Bloesch without strings attached.

I have a crazy question. How in the heck do you pronounce his name? Is it like Blesh, or Blōshe or is it pronounced some other way?

Pretty sure it's pronounced "blesh".  At least, that's how I've heard Littrell pronounce it in interviews.

Okay, add in some inside zone runs on 3rd and 15

We ran Baylor offense this year mixed with Seth’s.

Bloesch is going to be a G5 head coach soon.  Could be next year and he won't have to move. 😟

Hope we can keep him long enough to see what happens. 2 more yrs!

Congratulations to Coach Bloesch and his family! This was clearly a strategic move to keep him around, and he ought to be able to add another tremendous statistical year to his resume this fall. As has been mentioned before, he was Littrell's 'eye in the sky' coaching from the press box as Littrell is on the sidelines; and with that he was already naturally involved in the in-game play calling. This will be a simple "transition", and likely in title only; but kudos for him and the work he did in his first year in Denton. Looking forward to continuing to enhance our OL play with his leadership of that group.
