This novice’s photo-journalistic contribution to UNT, Bill Mercer & his (then) UNT student one Craig Eay. Mr.Way has been the “Voice of the Texas Longhorns” for years.  (Also Texas High School football shows in past years).

•••I took this photo of Mercer & UNT student Craig Way at the 1985 UNT Homecoming game at old Fouts Field.
••• What it was is that I had won a Dallas MG Club silent auction bid to be in the press box for the first half of that game. It was quite the experience to say the least. (Those guys work hard.

It really is amazingly ironic that our alma mater was so well-known for having this amazing sports broadcasting area, yet sports had absolutely no respect or care here at all for decades. Its so North Texas to have amazing play-by-play announcers and sportscasters, while never having teams that the university community would support.

Manifesto #55

To untjim1995 & others just as concerned as we’ve all been at some point:  As age 70 literally crept up on me a small hint from my past UNT experience:   I spent way too much time in the past being frustrated & negative. I thought:  “Good Lord, has there ever been an NCAA FBS school which  has so under-performed as much as ours?” (Maybe only Kansas State pre-Bill Snyder)?
At UNT, we had seen so many schools we were once at a similar level (even in the same conference) go “beep-beep” right past us.
••• Most of our concerns we have today we were  addressing 25 or so years ago but.....right now we have all the leadership pieces of our puzzle in place & that (probably) for the first time in our history.
Seth will do the job or he’ll move onto a (similar) high paying job as an Offensive Coordinator at Big Time U. He won’t be lacking for job offers.   I think, though, we really need him to succeed at North Texas.  Yes, we can keep playing “change the head football coach again” roulette or we can stick with him. Some said give him 3 good recruiting classes in a row then see what he does. Well, he now has that, but my gut feeling says Seth Littrell is going to make this happen in good ol’ Denton, Texas, America.

No doubt that would be the best outcome. But if it doesn’t  happen for SL here, somebody is gonna come in ready to go with these advantages and talent we have here now.
