OOC will be tough in 2021.  3 will be hard to win. 6-6. or 7-5 might be realistic.

We gave up an average of 41.3 points a game this year and 509.4 yards.

What are realistic goals for 2021?

Get that down to 30 ppg allowed (with the tough OOC factored in) and I’ll be ok with that “Year 1” result.

By year 2 I expect to be in the low 20’s

I feel the same.

Realistically, I win in OCC but be competitive in the others. CUSA is always a toss up but we better be near the top of the west or win it.

C-USA is currently the worst FBS conference, so he should be able to field a respectable defense next season.

If Bennett can build us a defense that allows less than 24 points a game in conference play, we should be a contender for the western division. I don't think a 24 PPG defense is too much to ask. If C-USA was a better conference, 28 PPG would be acceptable to me.

As bad as we were and considering we are changing back to a 4 man front, I would be satisfied giving up anything under 35ppg. I’m less concerned about yards.

Not so concerned about a statistic. Let me see players aligned and assigned. Then let me see good tackling. But most importantly, let me see 11 soul eating, dream crushing aggressive mindsets.

Speed and tackling should be their main priorities because last year they looked like Denton High in the secondary.

They looked incredibly slow last year. Not just the secondary, but also the linebackers too.

I think with PB schemes will be solid and techniques will be taught. I think our players will be more knowledgeable and know what to do. Now will the players be able to do their part.

Year 1 Expectations

  • Under 32pts per game (Under 27pts per game in year 2)
  • establish an identity as the Mean Green
  • stop the run (meaning under 160 per game and in year 2 it should be under 140)
  • under 230 yrd per game passing
  • 18+ turnovers
  • NEVER EVER allow a first down on a 3rd and 15+ ALL YEAR LONG!!!!!!

Year 1 goal: win CUSA championship
Year 2 goal: actually win a bowl, or let Seth walk

A bowl win is an objective, but there will be over thirty schools that do that.

I think we overpraise Mc because of the bowl win over probably the weakest team in UNLV that got an invitation that year.

Have a great regular season, and then worry about a bowl bid.

Contemplating firing a coach that has won at least one USA championship in the last two years would be very extreme.

Good point.  There will definitely be less than thirty teams that have a great regular season in the worst conference in FBS football.  😉

I would almost agree with that if the conference win was something to brag about. We are such a bad conference, and with the cash we are putting out, the recruits, and the facilities, consistent Conf wins should be bottom line for remaining employed.

Consistent conference wins is far from winning a 14 team conference every year.
