I know he developed a great bond with EJ and Brandon, and really everyone he coached. I would take him in a heartbeat, but sadly that won’t happen for a while.

My wish is that we get someone who has had GOOD records at his previous school, not a school that is the doormat of the P5...

I would think we would be attractive/intriguing to a defensive coaches. If you can come in here and improve (honestly the bar is set pretty low) you would make yourself a hot commodity

I'd like to pick up a name hire with a history of quality defenses. Just spit-balling a few off the top of my head, and in no particular order...

None of these guys are currently working as defensive coordinators.

What about Jim Leavitt?  Where’s he at nowadays?

FAU snatched him up after they missed out on Bowen.

*obviously kidding,  we're the only school that wanted him

I'd like for UNT to take a look at Ron Collins. He seems to have a lot of the qualities we are looking for in a DC. Big time experience as a DC at Colorado. G5 success as a DC at Boise State. He is currently the DC at Ohio, where his 2020 defense held opponents to just 16.7 points per game (10th in the nation), and 389 yards per game. Of course Ohio only played 3 games this season. In 2019, his first season as DC at Ohio, his defense allowed 27 points per game and 401.5 yards per game.

The MAC programs are poor. Certainly we could pay more. I'd look at the USA Today salaries, but they aren't including the G5 programs this year.

I think I have found our DC....

He was LA Tech DC in 2019 for their 10-3 season when they beat Miami (the U) in the Independence Bowl (They beat us 52-17 in Ruston that season). He has also been a DC at Notre Dame, Nebraska, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, and Purdue this past season. Daico also won the Broyles award when he was the DC at Notre Dame. Plus, he played for Hayden Fry at Iowa. Thoughts?

Bob Diaco - Wikipedia

He was suggested by an LT fan on the conference board.

Scott Symons - Liberty

He’s a local guy and has recruited Texas for a few different schools.  Younger guy on the rise.  It would be a lateral move but maybe you could sell him on coming home.

Had Liberty 13th in total yards and 22nd in scoring defense.

This guy is going to be a head coach someday if you look at his career trajectory.  Would be a great pickup if you could convince him to leave a better program.

I assume this is a reference to the desire for a 4-man front and not some sex slang like a rusty trombone.

EDIT: still really hoping football-related 🤣

Hometown: Hurst, Texas

Local product and aggressively progressing, may be a good option.

My concern would be this comment from the article relating to his dismissal at Purdue:

“But, after a terrible year on defense and rumors of Coach Diaco having a complete disconnect with staff and other players - we are moving on”

I saw that too. But, I don't know what to make of it. It could be a cultural fit issue. Indiana isn't Texas. LT fans said he is an odd dude, but they loved having him for a DC and didn't want to lose him. Plus, Littrell has to hit a home run with this hire. If he wants to get a high caliber DC, he may have to take a guy with some baggage. Better that than add another buddy for a P5 that lives among the defensive bottom feeders of the FBS.
