I think this backfires on auburn but who knows?

Harsin isn't a bad hire in and of himself, not by any means. . . .

But is he a guy you pay $21 million to fire Gus Malzahn for?!?  Auburn seems to have overplayed their hand.  They must have thought they were going to be able to hire Urban Meyer or something.

I agree with this. The rumors about Clark and Napier turning it down might well be true. I think the circus every year about Malzahn -who was always at least competent and sometimes actually great- being on the hotseat made it look a lot less attractive even compared to other SEC gigs. If you think you are a hot coach, you may want to wait for a place where you get only a tiny bit less, but can build a little bit calmer and are not expected to beat Saban almost every year.

Seems like they were turned down by several. Looks like this was their let's get SOMEONE hired move. He might be good but will he be better than what you had?

Auburn was insisting that any new coach keep Kevin Steele and another assistant I can’t remember.

Hey coach we want to hire you because you’ve shown you are a good coach BUT we don’t trust you to pick staff.

Auburn is nuts. Fired Bowden year after he tied for the division for a 1-5 start after not winning less than 8 despite sanctions from Pat Dye infringing on his first two years. Replaced him with Tuberville. They interviewed Petrino mid-season to replace Tommy but he won the Iron Bowl and beat Wisconsin in a bowl. Fired for 5-7 after winning 20 the prior two seasons combined.

Hired Chizik and fired him two years after a national title. Fired Gus who has a 3-5 record vs Saban because 6-4 in SEC this year wasn’t good enough.

Auburn is crazy

Nobody with any sanity would take this job, unless you just want to get rich and then go back to being a coach at the lower levels.

Saban and Bama have the single greatest CFB dynasty of our lifetimes going on and it doesn’t appear to be slowing its roll anytime soon. He has had two SEC coaches that have beaten him Multiple times, one was Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss, the other was Gus Malzahn. And he gets fired because they can’t beat Bama, Georgia, LSU, and A&M every year.

That is a job that is thankle$$.

So assuming Boise moves to AAC in football only and finds a conference for all other sports, which seems to be the hang up. Who does the MWC replace them with?

With the cost of travel does it make sense for the AAC? For the MWC if they do leave for football do you keep them for other sports?

The money they make in AAC will more that offset travel costs for their football program, but I doubt the MWC will keep their other sports. They made an exception for Hawaii who was able to put their others programs in Big West. However it appears the Big West, made up of California universities with Rainbow Warriors as exception, are not interested in Boise. This leaves the MVC, Big Sky[considered a step down plus Idaho is a member] or possibly WAC, although I that would really be a stretch, especially since the are in process of adding 4 programs from the Southland Conference.
