So we’re all Mean Green Sports fans here. Other than a couple of individuals you wouldn’t even be posting on @Harry ‘s gmg.com unless you love Mean Green Sports and the University of North Texas.  I would expect everyone here to be hoping and praying that Mean Green Sports return as fast as possible?  If not then I would be wondering why your here at all?

So we all want Mean Green Sports to return.  I certainly do.  And I know there’s not going to be a vaccine any time soon.  So that means Sports, mainly for us football,...will have to return and if fans attend to watch they will have to do so with risks.  How much risk is the $64,000 question?

And so the questions to risks involved in attending an outdoor football game need to be...”At what risk is someone facing outside in heat and humidity and wind at a football stadium?”.

I’ve been studying and researching this for a few days.  One study that was 5-6 weeks old out of China says the virus in a lab setting needs an environmental temp of 39-76 degrees F to survive and thrive.

Looking all that up led me to Aerosol Science(I didn’t know that existed to be honest).  Here’s a link to the latest research I’ve found concerning Cov19

The coronavirus pandemic and aerosols: Does COVID-19 transmit via expiratory particles?

Yall can read thru it and tell me what you think but for the most part I take from this is they just don’t have any idea what risks anyone is at outside in a weather related environment?  So I have no idea how anyone can predict or make decisions for an event four months from now?

Thoughts?

Rick

Trust me, I want sports back.  My brother (not a sports fan) asked me the other day how I was holding up with no sports and I told him truthfully it's a dark time right now.

Do I think the vast majority of people would be safe in an outdoor stadium?  Yeah, of course.  Do I think that leagues are gonna be hesitant to open up because they'd be afraid of being sued if even a few people could be traced to getting sick/dying from attending a game during a pandemic?  Hell yes.  And do I think that if the pro leagues are reluctant that the NCAA would be even more so since their athletes aren't paid employees?  Yes.

I am loving the fact that MLB is talking like it may come back around the 4th of July, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Emma Teitel: Trump and his ilk have it out for Greta Thunberg - it ...

Sunday silliness: AOC is too dumb to even come up with her own ...

If people don't like Trump, fine. But then don't support and blast someone because you don't like them and then cheer on and support people who have no "expertise" other than they support your views.

When this is all over...I wonder how many people will have been affected by Covid that never had Covid...a lot of people aren't getting routine care because of this virus. Logic would say that cancer rates, heart issues, etc that are currently not being treated will be an issue down the road. But heart disease and cancer are suddenly not a big deal.

She has seen patients with burns, heart failure, and other illnesses be treated for COVID-19, often at the neglect of what could be a more pressing medical issue.” Not everyone presents the symptoms the same, but they are ignoring the other things that are contributing to their demise,” she says.

My simplistic view:

We have the medical technology to develop a vaccine. The world is owed at least that much and must be forced to social distance (etc.) until success/failure of a vaccine can be verified. If the top countries in the world come together, this can be done in less than a year. This will jump start the worlds movement to herd immunity. The number of lives saved should be the motivation not the number of business saved. But most Americans think we are bulletproof and live in a bubble. The idea to open it all up and let nature take it’s course is wrong here. You have to save people from themselves.

I'll hand it to Trump, he absolutely killed it in terms of handling covid. Only 120k americans six feet under, thank God he didn't FUBAR this or else we would be in trouble. No one is going to be in Apogee stadium three months from now buzzed without a care in the world cheering on the Mean Green, but atleast we got that economy cranking.

7500 people die everyday, on average

  • Heart disease: 647,457
  • Cancer: 599,108
  • Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936
  • Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201
  • Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
  • Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404

those are the total numbers of deaths for the year of 2017...so is 112k bad?

does the total suck covid deaths suck?  sure, but we truly don't know if this is that bad, in my opinion, because we don't know how many people are dying every day  for this year.  if it's about the same as a normal year, it isn't.

yes i know it's only june, so 6 more months of deaths to add on to the total.

This is some really scary shit when people start posting stuff like this. A very avoidable contagious disease is sweeping through the country killing more boomers than the Vietnam War ever did, due to a lack of mitigation from said country's government, and you're just gonna accept it under the premise of people die of other stuff every day?

actually, yes i am because people die every day and we don't know if more people are dying due to covid or it's just recategorized as a covid death.  i don't see the harm in this train of thought.  death sucks, no shit, but people die.  that's never going to be stopped.  you disagree, cool...no big deal, but the world doesn't stop because people die.  roughly, 8x as many people have recovered from covid as have died.  hell ya!  that's awesome to me.  it means if you get it...you're probably gonna be fine.  it's just a sickness.

and i don't wear a mask, i don't wear gloves, neither does my wife or kids (unless the business requires it).   i go out every damn day and have since this started.  i frequent stores/restaurants/bars/you name it.   is this unpopular?  of course it is.  is it wrong?  good question....i don't know and neither do you.

i'm not the expert on this stuff....because who really is when you can find positives/negatives based upon what expert you want to believe.  i could be totally wrong and my family and i will die a horrible death...but maybe won't (from covid...we could all dies in a plane crash/car crash/etc.), but i will not stop going out, living life, supporting the economy, having fun.  sue me...cuss me...whatever...we all have our beliefs and this is mine.

hopefully, i'll see ya at apogee this year and the beer is on me!  i'm cool with folks that disagree with me, not a big deal...it's life and i'm going to live it.

edit:  damnit...i forgot to ask how this is "a very avoidable disease"? and if you're just going to jump on politics, don't answer...you have no idea how another president/government could have stopped this "very avoidable disease"

I've long held...well before covid...that most people move through life within their own personal 3-foot bubble, oblivious to the world around them.

this selfish diatribe is written affirmation. kinda the dead sea scrolls of arrogance.

call me selfish and arrogant....cool

so what part of my "diatribe" is wrong?  or do you just disagree and need to call me names? and that's cool...no big deal

I don't have the energy to parse through all the nonsense so I'll just pull this out and keep it really simple: you won't see me, nor likely anyone else probably at Apogee this year because you won't be there either. Do you know why? Because it would be far too great of a risk to have thousands of people crowded into a stadium where they will be cheering, eating, and sharing a lot of water droplets that transmit this disease and allow it to spread like wildfire in the right conditions. That's why when you turn on the TV you see European Soccer, NASCAR, and horse racing being played in empty stadiums: because crowding people together for large events in a stadium is generally a bad idea.

Why must they play in empty stadiums? Because people like yourself who might be asymptomatic or not showing symptoms yet, refuse to do something as simple as wear a mask and therefore the virus continues to spread.

tldr...too much nonsense and i don't want to talk to someone that thinks differently from me....

the above is what i got from your comment...i'll still buy ya a beer and chat with ya anytime...i enjoy conversations with those that are different from me...it's a hell of a lot more fun than chatting with someone that thinks just like me

So if that’s the “simple” solution, why not just require that masks be worn?  No mask, no entry.  Mask off once inside, you’re escorted to the exit.  Simple.

i went back and used all my energy to parse though all you wrote...couple things...we don't know what's going to happen in september, just because you believe we won't have people, doesn't mean we wont.  nascar had some fans last week and plan to have fans at talledega sunday.  they also have plans to have up to 30 k at bristol on july 15.  lone star park now has fans at the horses as other tracks across the nation.  no fans this weekend at belmont for the derby, but don't say there are no fans at horseracing when there are fans.

Allow me to clarify: because this virus has gotten so out of control from people not taking responsibility, we can't go back to sports viewing like normal. We're too far past simply having 20-30k in Apogee  with masks at this point, the only solution will be a vaccine. At best we'll be back to sports with about 10-25% capacity, but things will probably only get worse come fall.
