Something to think about re: China: the same misinformation we got from China made it to other countries, too.  S. Korea, Japan, US, etc, all got the same numbers at the same time as we did, with the same information from the WHO.

So why was our outcome such a far cry from how S. Korea handled it? and Japan? Why were they able to expeditiously get so many tested and control this, but we have not?

Poor US science/data?  Poor leadership? Maybe the difference is geographic?

I already posted how Taiwan was able to get on top of it.

Well, I'd be surprised at how dumb the conclusion of the article was if I didn't know the author.

Taiwan had a swift, methodical response where accurate information was disseminated regularly and efficient measures were taken with a singular message from the top down.

The facts that they took the threat seriously, coordinated a national and local response, and continue to prepare for the worst is why they've accomplished what they have. It has absolutely nothing to do with "freedom".

I know it won't happen, but speaking hypothetically, if you knew that giving up 10% of your wealth would spare thousands of lives, would you do it?

A one-time emergency tax of 10% on the 100 richest Americans would generate appx 1 trillion dollars.  Pump that into the US stimulus plans, and we could easily manage another 1 or 2 months.  They wouldn't miss it.

But they wouldn't consider it.

Didn't the founder of Twitter do this?

His promise was for 1/3rd of his wealth.

And I would expect the "some of us need to die so the economy can go on" message to gain way more traction than "a few of us need to donate a small portion of our extreme wealth to help the country."

You assume that the 100 richest Americans are worth 10 Trillion Dollars! 100 x 100 Billion is 10 Trillion. We do not have even 3 Americans worth that much.

Further, how would you accomplish this?  Since most of their wealth is in stocks would you take possession of that asset or require them to sell. If they sold do you really think the stock would hold its value? Would you confiscate their yachts and mansions? If so who would buy?

Not sure why people are downvoting. This is a well thought out point. Any taxes on wealthier Americans would need to be on a perpetual basis and would take a while (months to years) to produce any appreciable amount.

I'm old enough to remember when Rick absolutely lost his ish at Obama when literally one guy died from Ebola a few years back. I guess 30,000 people when the president has a R next to his name doesn't quite incite the same disappointment in his leaders.

Look, you hate Trump, do not like Police officers or those who support the two, we get it.

Please share with us the posting where Rick "lost it" when one guy died from Ebola. Or, as normal are you revising history to fit you liberal/socialist views?

Per capita? Try Germany, Japan or South Korea on for size. All examples of denser countries that show what actual leadership and prevention does before allowing thousands to be infected. Speaking of comparisons between Rhode Island and Texas, we're 49th per capita in testing per our awesome governor that wants to open hair salons back up.

Even with China lying about their numbers, we're still going to probably end up with more deaths, and the virus had a 6 week head start on China before anyone was even entirely aware of it. It's weird that the same camp of people screaming to open up the economy also cry that China's numbers are fake. So which is it, a harmless bug that only affects the most vulnerable and we can all go about our daily lives with little restriction, or is it a deadly contagion that wiped out a million people over a few months time?

Notice you didn’t say a word about following the lead of his experts.

Dr. Fauci; 1/21: The virus is not a major threat.

Dr. Fauci; 1/21: The American people should not be scared or frighten by the Coronavirus.  This is a very low risk...

Later he told people it was safe to go on a cruise if they were healthy.

I don't have time to go through this thread, as it goes on for a lot of pages.  I know I was concerned initially, but I don't even recall the Ebola scare that well.  I assume whatever they're fighting over is in here somewhere.

I think eveyone respects Dr. Fauci.   But no man is perfect.  He is not Jesus.

Never said I didn’t respect the man. He has an impressive resume. I was just pointing out that Trump was following the lead of his advisors at the time. Actually, Trump instituted a travel ban and people went ape. Everyone likes to say “Trump played golf” or “Trump held a rally” and criticize him, but the same people won’t admit that the esteemed Dr. Fauci was making the statements above at the same time.

Most of the Trump criticism I've seen about his early response from roughly mid February until his Oval Office Address to the country.  That's when people think more should have been done to get the country ready (invoke the Defense Production Act then, etc).

Yes, I am a human with a moral character who doesn't like a sociopath being the most powerful person in the world. Crazy, I know.

No, I don't like the current system of policing. I think it should be scrapped entirely and replaced with something else. What that is I don't know, but the current state of policing is abysmal. They are not above criticism the same way any organization is.

Dude, there thread is there, and I'm not interested in parsing through 13 pages of it, but I can give a few examples since you're so eager to defend his honor.

Here's Rick sharing a Daily Caller link of all things to try and pinpoint the blame on Obama for letting the Ebola victim into the country. Rick, any thoughts on Trump not closing off travel to Europe soon enough, because it's more likely that's where the outbreak in the Northeast US came from.

Here's Rick saying that removing the restrictions was a bad decision by Obama. Again, any critiques on the current administration for 40k+ deaths?

"Pussy President to Blame for Benghazi"

There's Ebola elsewhere in the US per the Washington Examiner

Rick, aren't you still a firefighter?

CDC are a bunch of liars because they're just following Obama's orders and don't want a panic

"obama cancelled fundraisers so it must be serious"....Rick your thoughts on Trump holding rallies and fundraisers until mid-March?

Anyone else wonder if some of these people sharing the stage with Trump just say random, false shit (in line with whatever Trump is saying) because they're afraid of backlash from the President?

Ha...I’m honored to be considered for so much scrutiny.

I thought you didn’t have time to go through that thread?  I guess so, but you have a different understanding of what “Lost his It” means than I do....LOL!

As for Trump, he’s been warning us about China since the 90’s.  And he’s tried to restrict travel into the U.S. since year one.  So how hilarious is it that the hypocritical  left now thinks he didn’t do it soon enough.  Not sure what else there is to say about that?
