Democrat socialists make their living sowing fear and loathing to those who may believe it. Rarely do they offer any realistic, real life solutions to law abiding, working, tax paying Americans. It's been their trademark for over 50 years.

the "things used to be/could subsequently be worse" argument for why people shouldn't want better over all is a bad argument.

I didn't get that take from the article at all.

But if I'm understanding you, it seems your conclusion is that politicians should distort reality and assume an unrealistic outlook regarding the way things really are in order to remain in, assume, or increase their power and influence over the voting public.

If so, that's scary on multiple levels.

no...that's a really big leap.

what it does mean, to take directly from these very anecdotal examples...is that just because we don't have sweat shops that we shouldn't lobby for a living wage
it means that just because we don't have tenements that we shouldn't push for fairer housing practices
it means just because people aren't shooting up on your neighbors stoop with a bent spoon and syringe that we shouldn't hold drug companies accountable for masking the dependency their opiates create
it means that just because cities were dangerous in the 70s that we shouldn't at least discuss gun culture in the wake of countless mass shootings
it means that just because a picture of Pittsburgh in the 70s was cloudy as AF that we should ignore global climate change

and ya...it means that just because there's not poop on your corner that everything is great.

most of all, you don't get to support going back to a better time and making america great again while also pointing out how much it sucked.

this is a shitty opinion piece with zero numbers/evidence/argument. you liked it because it kinda vaguely tried to portray a less extreme/less dramatic vision which in truth never actually existed. it criticized both parties, so it must be balanced right?

nah...it said nothing and did it poorly.

I don’t understand why the author attempted to compare the left’s CONSTANT message of doom and gloom to the right’s celebration of the current economic prosperity.

The guy must not have seen a single campaign speech by any of the democrat candidates currently running for president.....or watched a minute of President Trumps state of the union night.

You cannot find two more differing  realities.

There is a difference is social services, public school, public services, Social Security, and socialism where the government taxes at a high rate and promises all of these services in return.  How many socialist countries thrive?  Hell, we live in the greatest country in the world yet our government fails at providing minimal services and the Democrats want to expand that?  Medicare for all is a financial boondoggle.  The government runs Social Security, the postal service, the VA, and Amtrak for instance.  Which one of those is run well and successful?

The leaders in the party sow that fear.  AOC and her bunch, Warren, Sanders, etc...  The funny thing about Sanders is that he had millionaires in his cross hairs four years ago. Now that he's a millionaire he's up it to billionaires.  Speaking of Sanders, he is a prime example of who socialism benefits.  He has never passed a meaningful peace of legislation, yet here he, a millionaire by living off of the public's dime.  Before you form your rebuttal, remember that he is a devoted communist.

If honesty or morality matters to you ... he is terrible . It seems everything is entirely about him (ego, arrogant)  ... not about America or anyone else. Also no one else has used their entire family run things like a royal family.. Ever wonder why so many of his original staff are long gone (unlike other administrations)  ... quit or fired

Imagine being this one sided...

Imagine watching cable news 12+ hours a week

Imagine living in Texas, the South for decades and convincing yourself the Yankee is the guy who speaks for you.

Ya'll are so consumed by red/blue it's crazy. Whether it's a democrat or republican in office in 2021 nothing will change for you.

For your own sanity, blood pressure, and longevity, cut down on the cable news and stop arguing with each other over pointless bullshit.

Using every lesson taught to you as a child as a measuring stick, yes Trump is a terrible person.

We can go through all of the examples but you know them.  If you vote for him you just don’t care that he is a terrible person.

I have never said Trump doesn't say and do some really dumb things. But you guys have no problem with all of the other politicians who do the same thing and tell people one thing and do the compete opposite behind closed doors? Or no problem when the family members of other politicians get great jobs (have you noticed how many multimillionaire families there are who have been career politicians?  I'm guessing you are also among those who hear the quotes or activities that are implied to have been said.done by Trump and get really pissed off, and then when you find out it was said/done by Obama or other Democrats, start backtracking and justifying really quick.

"but, but, he/she did it too..." is not a good argument either.   All politicians are scumbags.

I wonder if we'll ever get back to a point where we would expect a sitting president to be above reproach.   Or, will it always be finger-pointing at previous transgressions from other politicians?

Sadly it does not seem likely anytime soon.  My best guess to get back to civility- term limits.

Oh, I'm all for that.
Get in.  Do what you say you're going to do, then get out.   Get some kind of benefit for your brief time serving, like maybe healthcare or some kind of small pension.

Nope.  All politicians, regardless of level, build personal wealth, all the while under the guise of helping all citizens of our country.  Assuming the deal was made and the price is correct, how was Obama able to buy a $14.85 mil dollar home in Martha’s Vineyard?  Did some supporter give him that money?  How did he build that kind of wealth?  I’m dumb.  Someone clue me in.
