Sports Day & AP’s All Area & All State list

Besides Guyer’s Cobbs and Duncanville’s Trysten Smith’s (averaged 9 Yards a carry at the biggest division) limited offers there’s two more guys in the 4A State list with no offers (That I can find, so bare with me).

LB Caden Hayes.....Melissa.....6', 210........AP 4A State Def Player of the year; 195 tackles; 39 TFLs; 12 sacks; 5 forced fumbles

2nd team OL......Sam Bartis Sunnyvale....6'1", 285    5-4 Div. II MVP; 3 year starter; 90% blocking grade in every game; 63 pancakes.

Maybe Hayes is slow, I don’t know.  But you can’t be too slow with 195 tackles and he’s the #1 defensive player in the state at the 4A level.

And I know it’s happened before (Aledo’s monster O lineman Hicks in 2006) for an O lineman to be voted his district’s MVP but it’s pretty damn rare.   But despite being undersized Sunnyvale’s Sam Bartis earned that honor on a team that’s gone 21-2 the past two years. At 6’1 285 pounds he’s got something special, and he may still grow.  He’s already Center size.  This kid could be the next Andy Brewster?  You would think if nothing else he’s worthy of a PWO?

Two more diamonds in the rough no one else seems to want...just like the New York Giants’ Josiah Tauefa from Lake Dallas.

I just don’t get recruiting and I probably never will?

Looks like Bartis has some D2 & D3 offers but there's nothing out there on Hayes. I don't get it either. Some kids are just "football players" that don't meet the measureables.

I think you called it.  Hayes is showing a 4.8 40 and at his size that probably doesn't cut it at the D1 level.  Hopefully, with 195 tackles, he'll end up with a good program if that's what he wants.

I see why he wasn’t offered. Undersized and not explosive. I was impressed by his tackling ability though.

We already signed our center Dane Jackson. However, I was impressed with his tape. He destroyed some of the DL he faced. It wouldn’t hurt to offer him a PWO. I see he has a few D2 and D3 offers though.

Im just thinking we don’t need Hayes to run 40 yards, we need him to run 7 to 10 and fill the space in front of him.  He takes good angles and wraps his man up after contact and brings him down.

He’s an excellent tackler and reminds me of Chris Hurd and Kenny Buyers.

As for Bartis,...Quick off the ball, quick snaps,  quick feet, great base, seems to love contact.  He has everything you could ask for but an inch or two in height.  I’ve watched height get Mason Fine nearly killed for 4 straight years so I don’t know what else to say????

I understand where you are coming from. Hell I just work in Finace, I like to think I understand tape when I watch it. But what do I know lol.
