First off lets looks at the top 5 defenses this last season in conference USA and their current DCS

  1. UAB  - David Reeves Previous Jobs UAB DL JSU DL - https://uabsports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/david-reeves/1327
  2. WKU -Clayton White Previous Jobs NC State & Connecticut Special Team Coach - https://wkusports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/clayton-white/493
  3. Marshall -Brad Lambert Charlotte Head Coach - https://herdzone.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/brad-lambert/434
  4. FAU - Glenn Spencer Previous Jobs Charlotte and OSU DC - https://fausports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/glenn-spencer/480
  5. Louisiana Tech - Bob Diaco Previous Jobs Defensive analyst Oklahoma Nebraska DC Connecticut HC - https://latechsports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/bob-diaco/496

Here is list of guy I like that are currently unemployed. I know before you scoff at the idea of bringing in guys that might have struggled in the Big 12. Lets remember there are not many "successful" Defenses in the Big 12. Also at North Texas we won't be going up against-the likes of  Lincoln Riley, Tom Herman, Matt Rhule, Mike Leach and Art Briles week end and week out.

  1. MIke Stoops - Former OU DC and Arizona Head Coach- He is currently at Alabama as a Defensive Analyst - https://247sports.com/Coach/Mike-Stoops-157/
  2. Ryan Walters- Mizzou Dc and former North Texas CB coach- Currently employed with HC getting fired- https://mutigers.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/ryan-walters/1359
  3. David Gibbs - Mizzou Safeties Coach And Former Houston and Texas Tech DC - https://mutigers.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/david-gibbs/1380
  4. Todd Orlando (MY PICK) - Former Texas and Houston DC - https://247sports.com/Coach/Todd-Orlando-539/
  5. Gene Chizik - Former NC DC and Auburn HC - https://247sports.com/Coach/Gene-Chizik-15/
  6. Jeff Koonz - Former North Texas and Ole Miss LB Coach - https://olemisssports.com/news/2019/3/7/football-names-jeff-koonz-linebackers-coach.aspx

I like your list. Add Jim Leavitt too. Not sure if we could get him, but you never make a shot you don’t take.

Whoever it ends up being, I REALLY wish they could bring this bearded guy out of retirment and on staff as an off-field consultant

.

Watch them swarm to the ball.

After realizing that Walters was here in 2013, I'd be ok with him coming and calling for guidance from Skladany.

Gibbs would be an interesting one to keep an eye on.  He made $800k at Mizzou.  That's not happening here, so he'd have to OK a slash in salary to about half of what he made last year.   Tons of turnovers though!  I think he would do well in C-USA.
Stoops would be a coup, and basically a favor for a friend.  I don't know how long he would be around. (Same with Fedora agreeing to be an OC, if possible).
Orlando just has all of the recent inroads/relationships with TX HS coaches that Littrell thinks are so critical.  He makes a ton of sense... but last year, he made as much as Littrell.  Again, he'd have to agree to take a significant pay cut.

Clay Jennings was a CB coach for him does that count

He's worked for a lot of big time programs, but he's always had the same job.....DB's. If he was DC material, he would have been hired as one several years ago. Besides, I haven't heard many positive comments about the DB's this year.

On the other hand, he didn't arrive until February of this year. So until we see who signs in a few weeks,  we don't know how well he is recruiting and he hasn't been in charge of DB development for a full year.

Let me throw out a completely dark horse candidate.

Darcel McBath

- currently serving as Co-DC at Washington State, worked here as a Quality Control Defensive intern and has local ties, playing at Gainesville High School and Texas Tech.

Wow I can remember when we were trying to recruit him.  Great athlete, i think from Gainesville or Sherman?  WSU connection is interesting.

I really like Kootz a lot! Would be a great hire! He will be a DC and head coach one day!

I am asking for a friend but how did the OL coach hold on to his job.  It was one of our biggest weaknesses.  Can we find a DB coach they will teach the dbs and safeties to look at the qb.  Hard to make an interception when you have no idea where the ball is.

I’m honestly curious about why you guys are interested in Orlando? His defense at Texas, with those resources and talent, was statistically worse than UNT’s this year.

Correct I don’t know what the logic is, but it sounds like pure emotion to me.
