OK--Ill play. Who is paying players here at UNT? Who is getting paid on our roster? Mason Fine, the QB from Podunk, OKahoma that is so small that literally no other FBS school even considered him? Who else?

So getting away from IF they should do it.

HOW would they do it?

Why does the state of California have jurisdiction over the NCAA? The NCAA is basically a private company. Like many other private companies that leave California due to excessive regulations...why couldn't the NCAA?

What's to stop the NCAA from saying: "Ok fine...they don't have to follow our rules....but they cant' compete for NCAA championships."

Man, I’m glad we are apparently still playing amateur college football here in Denton even though all those other FBS and apparently FCS teams are paying players by their boosters...

I am not sure about the "every" part.  I remember a conversation with NT's best known past coach.  He complained about the rampant buying of players.  Not so much because of the morality of it, but the fact that he didn't have the funds to do it.

Why?  

  1. At first it was "amateur = no compensation". 
  2. Then it when people started to give compensation there was a bunch of gnashing of teeth and claims this was the end of college football, except it didn't end. 
  3. Then people said fine "amateur = compensation in the form of an athletic scholarship". 
  4. Then when the stipend was first introduced there was more gnashing of teeth and claims this was the end of college football, except it didn't end.

  6. Now, people are discussing allowing student athletes the right to their own name and image, and now there a bunch of gnashing of teeth (along with some good old rending of clothes) and the usual claims this was the end of college football.

College football survived all that teeth gnashing before.  In fact it's gotten bigger over time.   Sports change, I hate the DH but it's never going away.  The forward pass is legal.   We'll adjust to this as well. 

If compensation = College football is dying then it's been dying for about 145 of the 150 years it has existed.

They don't.  But they do have have legislative control of the money that the state sends to California universities, and if they want to continue to receive that money from the state they have to follow state law.  A new law says a state university can't remove an athletic scholarship or stipend if a student athlete exercises their right to own, and profit from, their own name and image.  That's all the law says.  It doesn't say the university has to pay a single penny more to anyone, just that they can't prevent student athletes from exercising a right every other student has. 

Look this is the NCAA's fault.  They new for years this was going to happen, and they never even formed the committee they said (in 2014) they would to address it.  They can't ban the California schools, New York, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, and Oklahoma has people working on similar bills.  What are they going to do, ban the SEC, B12, and PAC12 from the CFP?

      If we win out reg season we are in?

      Minnesota with a 3rd straight Quad 1 win. Our win in their house is looking better every game. Baring a collapse, Memphis is all but guaranteed a spot. Prior to their loss at Temple, some bracket experts had them as a 4 seed. They're 5-2 in Quad 1 games and 10-3 in Quad 1 and 2 with wins against Missouri, UConn, Michigan State, Clemson, Ole Miss, all of which are in the top 35 of NET. The resume is too strong unless they pretty much lose out. Cougar guy is wrong, though. Independent bracket experts with good track records of guessing the field still have UNT as being in contention. It's a longshot but not dead.

      TX State to the PAC 2?

      It’s interesting because I know the perception of the new PAC and AAC is that the PAC will be stronger, but where would Texas State rather go? It seems like AAC for a variety of reasons. I’m not convinced the new PAC is better than the AAC. UNLV and New Mexico holding back in the MWC, with the Northern Illinois and GCU ads have the future PAC in a bit of limbo. They have to keep performing or they will fall back fast. The SBC and AAC currently are the more stable forces, hence a certain level of power and leverage lives there. To me the PAC must break the bank to get Memphis or they are not going to lift on takeoff. GMG

      Join the Infantry in Houston - Tuesday, 2/11 at 8pm

      Rob Lanier, former SMU head coach, found out what the Infantry could do last February at Moody Coliseum. So when he moved over to Rice, inside sources suggest he slipped Tim Spaghetti some cash to make sure his home game against UNT would be on a weeknight this season. But I say, "Too bad, Rob! You can't escape us!" If you're in Houston, or are retired and can make the trip, or want to use a couple of half days like I did, join us at the terrible Tudor Fieldhouse on Tuesday, 2/11 at 8 p.m. The game has the later start because it'll be on ESPNU as the "west coast game." There are just under a hundred seats left behind our bench which would be group-rated at $25. For the second straight year I want to sell the section out. What'll make it better is the sea of green will be on national TV. It'll be different without Scott Screamin' Pera on the Rice bench, but we'll still have plenty to taunt Lanier about. Like how his son has to follow him around to maintain a D1 scholarship. And don't forget the UNT Dallas debacle. Here's what we did last year. We bought about 70 tickets, plus whatever the team was allotted, and the local alumni who bought on their own. If you are interested in joining our group for the game, message me. I've got pending communication out with the Houston alumni chapter to see if they will plan to do anything before the game like last year.       24/25 MBB Attendance Tracker

      12,400 announced at Providence today, who came into the game with a record of 9-10. Providence is about the same distance to Boston as Denton is to Dallas.
