PGA tour event Sanderson Farms has currently the third round going on, and NT alums Carlos Ortiz and Sebastian Munoz ended up in the same group and are tearing it up. Munoz and Ortiz are sharing the lead! Could be a great sunday.

Ok round three is over, and North Texas will definitely be a topic tomorrow on the golf channel, seeing as Munoz and ortiz will be the last pairing on the course, as Munoz is leading Ortiz by a shot, and Ortiz is second by himself after round three. Could really become the first PGA win by an NT alum since I paid attention.

Ortiz finishes tied for 4th, which is great.

Munoz, faced with a must make birdie to get into the playoff on 18th, made It! Going to a playoff. No clue when is the last time an NT alum won a PGA tour event.

And Munoz wins it!

Now leads the Fed-ex cup, card for next year already in the bag, qualified for the players championship and probably a whole number of fancy tournaments. And with him having played both yesterday and toay with Ortiz NT is likely to get a whole lot of coverage.

The announcers mentioned a number of times that he and Ortiz were teammates at North Texas.  You could tell Ortiz was excited for Sebastian.  The win gains him exemption for next year, entry in the Tour Championship, the Masters and the PGA Championship plus the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii in a couple of weeks.  He played 18 great to gain the tie and then overcame a bad second shot with a great third shot and clutch putt to win it all.  Congrats Sebastian!

Munoz news conference. The really interesting part starts about 12 minutes in. Think it really teaches something about how important it is to get to see other people succeed. i hope the guys on the roster now take notice. Also current coaches would be stupid not to bring it up when hitting the recruiting trail.

Guess who leads the Fed-Ex Cup standings.  Are we the only university with two in the Top 15?

Munoz wins $1,188,000 (I am old enough to remember when the Tour celebrated players for passing $1 million in career earnings!)

Ortiz wins $297,000 with a T-4.

With these earning, maybe I should have gone and tried being a golfer. Sure pays more than being a scientist. Congrats to them!
