Seriously, how bitter is it? Its so bitter that a UTSA fan (correcamino) came to the Mean Green board this week and corrected a stat from a game six years ago. Other than that, well, nothing.

Seriously, how bitter is it? Its so bitter that a UTSA fan (UTSAMarineVet09) posted on the sad Runners board a pic of the cUNT coffee cup, and then had to reply to it himself calling us "Not Texas" because nobody else was interested. Other than that, well, nothing.

Its certainly an important conference game as all conference games are, and its certainly entertaining to watch UTSA get dismantled, but I can't see how this series can constitute the 'Our Bitter Rival" phrase.

Agreed.  All of their fans that cared have gone back to loving the Whorns.

"Grrrr.  Those gosh darn folks at GMG!  I hope the Roadrunners beat them a bazillon to nothin' so we can wipe those smug superior looks from their faces."

There.  Are we rivals now?

Believe it or not, this is how the faux "rivalry" started.

Let's jump in the time machine, shall we...
The year is 2013:
UNT was rolling towards a VERY SURPRISING C-USA West division championship.  People on this board got their britches in a wad because some UTSA fans (quite a few, actually) had the audacity to come on here and smack-talk!   Now, understand, at the time, opponents smack-talking on GMG.com was a very rare phenomena... and several people on gmg.com did not have emotional capabilities to handle such smack-talk.   UTSA (also surprisingly) beat us in 2013 to keep the C-USA West Championship dream from happening (Nevermind that we had a hiccup against Tulane earlier in the year that we should have won, but we didn't call them a "rival").  Thus, giving the UTSA fans an opportunity to return to gmg.com and show their asses (which is not surprising, since their program was in infancy, and so were their fans' football IQ).

GMG.com is a message board that the Denton Record Chronicle beat writer happens to frequent... often.
Of course he's going to notice the handful of morons on here who flipped their lids when some folks came on here to be internet tough guys, and think we have a "hated enemy" or "rival".  Then, he writes about it, and voila! Publicity for our "rivalry"!

Fast-forward to today:
North Texas Football (and NT Athletics in general) has obviously come a very long way from that time, and our budget/commitment reflects that.   UTSA, has remained where they are, actually going backwards on the field, and their AD has resorted to scheduling yearly tricks for Big Poppa in Austin for dollars to float the program.

All that said, and now that we're 6 seasons into C-USA play... The dust has settled and the real rival has proven to be Louisiana Tech due to the stakes that go along with the two teams playing each other over the past few seasons along with them being closer in proximity and having a much longer football history both against each other, as well as just in general.

The problem? Louisiana Tech fans aren't college football newbies and are generally good folks that, when visiting gmg.com, often have civil discussions.  This does not inflame anyone on here, so no one gets big mad at them.

Hope this explanation helps.   And if you UTSA fans come to Denton, I hope y'all have a great time.

That's the students. They are the best 💩  talkers in the conference, the cusa rule to keep  the students away from the opposing bench is because of them.
