I had to work tonight, but I get on here late night, and see people complaining about the defense. We were up 41-10. I know mason stayed in the game too long, but do you really think we were playing out number 1 d the entire time??

 

i thought the d looked fast while we built our lead. I also think Tyreke Davis is going to be a stud. We were much less aggressive later in the game as well probably because we had a decent lead. 

 

I am “baffled” that mason played as late into the game as he did, but we have to be be realistic about the big picture. As much as I love SL, and always will, he’s going to get Mason as many stats as he can because, sadly, this is probably his last season here. So don’t expect him to worry about development. He’s gonna let Mason get his stats so he can hopefully get some recognition. (Which I want for him as well)

Realistically, as much as we want SL to be our Gary Patterson, it probably isn’t gonna happen. It’s just not. However, he has set us up on an entire new trajectory that NONE of us truly thought possible. 

If he decides to be our Patterson, Bowden, Coach K..... then hell effin yes!, thank God that finally happened for us, but if not, let’s just live in this moment and enjoy the ride. 

 

I feel like Neil and Wren have developed a culture and environment here that are soooo enticing that we might finally be able to keep this train rolling even after Littrell. 

 

That being said, Seth, Wren, and Neil.. please stay here and make this university your legacy. Y’all have done more for this university and the fan base than so, so many people that have come before you. Don’t be one in a line of many, be the one that people talk about for generations.

Think they were keeping things very basic.  My biggest concern was the D not wrapping up on tackles. They seemed to be trying to knock them down with big hits.

The D looked pretty good at the beginning. Best case scenario is they just lost interest. That’s not good. But better than being focused and still giving up that many points to ACU.

History shows we don’t get much takeaway from these games besides some experience and a W. That’s what they’re for so let’s take it and move on. 

We should be scoring 35-40 points a game and even with an average D, that wins us most games. 

On to SMU

What I saw last night was a team working through a lot of concepts and schemes.  The offense ran a few new things, but it appeared to be putting just enough on tape for SMU to have to account for.  

Also, Tyreke Davis is a missile and covered a lot of ground.  When he went out with an apparent leg injury (ice pack on his upper leg) I saw a drop off.  

And, right or wrong, the intensity dropped when we were up 35+ points.

Honestly it just looked like our D got bored. The more I watch the replays, the better I feel about their play early on.

Guess we didn't learn from last year? How many games did we start to blow them out early only to let them back in the game (games we ultimately lost)

What I saw late was some of the acu talent and skill I expected to see. We blitzed them overwhelmed then early. They are going to be an interesting team later this season. They have some scheme skill speed and athleticism. They will grow from this like IWU did last year.
