NT ranked #10 in G5, #44 amongst all bowl division teams. Only CUSA team in the Top 10. UAB and Houston in the others receiving votes, close behind. This was in today's paper.

Also, LB Hayden Harrison got a promotion....received a scholarship, per Mike Lawrence today.

GMG

Not sold on Army. Besides the OU game they played a lackluster schedule and squeaked by some bad teams. I think UH with all the Major/Ed drama was checked out. And we’ll see how UCF does without their do it all QB over a full season

Rank’em after week four and we’ll see where everybody, including us, is at.

The plain existence of this ranking is blasphemy. Disband it now.

No one, officially, has drawn a line in the sand between the D1 FBS universities or athletic programs. The media with I'm sure the help of TV executives, for monetary purposes, has drawn this line. Ignore it. When/If they attempt to make it official tie it up in courts for years.

Houston has done one of the best jobs of ignoring it in my opinion.  BYU and Boise as well.  Let’s put ourselves in that company.

Well, Steve Hammond...I think you may be implying that ND and Army are categorically lumped together. So, does this fella put UMASS, BYU, NMSU, Liberty and UCONN in this same group? Notre Dame is a quasi-ACC team. They schedule 3-5 ACC teams each year in football and play a semi-ACC basketball schedule. They have the dolla dolla bills to notate themselves as a media driven "P5". These same dollar bills do not apply for these other universities. BYU may be the closest only due to their sanctificating cult they have over there in Provo. Church, non-profit? Psh. If we're going to play the P5 vs. G5 game, which I do not concede to, Army is clearly in the same grouping as us, LaTech, etc. Their schedule even dictates their grouping and that's self inflicted.

Army's 2019 football schedule:

Where in this does this scream elite? And elite may not be Hammond's argument. But he certainly isn't relegating them to that nasty lower tier of media made "G5" status.

They have UAB as just missing their top 10.    When I saw this their G5 credibility dropped just a bit 😞

Very true.  But then again Clark is a good coach.  He may have a few tricks up his sleeve.

Yep, he is a really good coach.  And, he may pull off having a competitive team.    But based on what they have lost, picking them to be a good team this year seems quite the reach and it kind of shows that the media has not really done their research.

The media went crazy picking UNT basketball to be a NCAA tournament Cinderella back around 2013 with a loaded roster including Tony Mitchell.     In the end, NT was a flop.  Most here blame the coaching staff and it is hard to argue that point.

So in the end, maybe Clarke is good enough to make them competitive.

P5/G5 is media/informal nomenclature specific to football conference affiliation. The topic at hand is football, and the governing body of this sport - the NCAA - formally recognizes ND football as independent. The same category as Army.
