Man.....tuff audience on this thread. I mean if you win FOUR CONFERENCE championships and have a BOWL WIN during that period and can't get into UNT HOF.......guess none of our coaches shouldn't be in.

Guess lots of people sided with RV when RV and DD had their little spat.

My recollection of history is that at some point in 2001 RV had every intention of firing DD during or after the 2001 season, but then the Sun Belt happened.

It was directly after a loss to ULM in 2001...but then four years of no conference losses kinda poo poo’d on that plan

 You don't have to side with either one.   DD and RV were both trainwrecks that should have been terminated much earlier.

DD had a great run in the new Belt, again based on one fantastic recruiting class.  NT had a lot of advantages versus the other early Belt members, many of which were relatively new to D1 football. 

However, I have always given credit to DD for that winning streak that was amazing no matter what league. 

My issue with DD and it should have been everybody's, is that he killed his own program by his statements and lazy recruiting.   

The real problem for NT is that they had an Administration and BOR that failed to correct what should have been very obvious issues.

NT hired an AD with limited experience, and keep giving him new contracts for some unknown reason.  Did not RV serve under 4 different presidents?  

DD should have been shown the door, the first time he openly criticised his employer.

not to to take anything away from Mason and SL, but that CUSA sucked. What was their record in bowls? Did they even win a CUSA title?

People come on here and complain about alumni supporting other schools yet we seem to be ok with sub 500 HOF coaches?? If our standards are set low how can we blame them

That is actually a very fair statement based on the records of the opponents we beat this season.

CUSA might not be great, but to say the "suck" in comparison to the Belt in those years (IMO) is ridiculous.

Perhaps your right. The HOF should not be something were you have to try and justify why you put someone in but, IMO, were your accomplishments distinguish you. If no one is qualified for that particular year then no one goes in.

Odus Mitchell was national coach of the year in 1966, had seven consecutive winning seasons, and won ten conference championships. I think it is fair to say he belongs.

      A plea to our "football-only" fans

      Are you pleading for the student body to show up or alumni? A 6:30 game on a Wednesday is a B for someone that doesn’t live in close proximity. I live in Allen and could never consider that drive. We go to Americans hockey games as they are in our back yard. They aren’t very good but more of a deterrent for us to go to more, is no one is there….on a Tuesday night. If there stands were filled, it would feel more legit and we’d probably go more, even if the quality of play wasn’t there. I suspect the student body wants that same ‘experience’. When I was there so many years ago, we wanted to be where the action was, even if it was dash riprocks. So I see a bit of chicken and egg here. People don’t go because people don’t go. If people would go, more people would go. football games are so much easier to plan for. 1 game a week, generally on a Saturday. You can make a day/event out of it. Weekly, more frequent basketball games, on weeknights, don’t offer the same advantages. All that said, I applaud your plea and hope that the tides change. Would love to hear that the Pit is packed routinely.

      According to Burton, and I'm sure it's the same with some men's teams, some of the intra-TX teams that you'd think would bring more fans will only come play us if we give them a check. I think investing more in our schedule would be worth it for the larger crowds (plus extra tickets/concessions sold). Stop scheduling Mississippi Valley State. Get a UTA, Texas State, SHSU, LA Tech, UTEP, or SFA in here. Renewing rivalries with WKU and MTSU would also be fun. Agreed, I feel like there was more in the concourse a few seasons ago? But now it is mostly bare and dead. I would like to see somewhere on the concourse a spirit shop you walk through, like the Hangar at the AAC in Dallas. Perhaps it could be the on-campus NIL Store to provide an easy opportunity for our athletes to make more NIL earnings.

      It definitely starts with the students. There are too many alumni I've talked to my age or older who have still never been to a basketball game at The Pit. It is much easier to get them back if they've already experienced a game in the Mac/Hodge era. Otherwise it'll probably never happen. What is confusing though is how 7000+ people showed up last January to watch us beat SMU, the players invited the students to come party with them on the court, and students decided not to come back.
