UCF is leading a crusade against the college football elite, but none of the people they’re supposedly leading seem to know or care. And it’s kind of difficult to lead a crusade if no one’s following you.

As part of their quest for a seat at the big boy’s table, UCF AD Danny White has insisted on only scheduling home-and-home series with Power 5 programs. It’s been somewhat successful, as the Knights got North Carolina, Pitt and Louisville to agree to home-and-homes, plus a one-off home game with Stanford on Sept. 14 of this season. The Knights would love to get Florida’s Big 3 programs — Florida, Florida State, Miami — on their future schedules, but White has been unwilling to bend on his principles, refusing to schedule a 2-for-1 series or to play UCF’s home game at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl Stadium rather than UCF’s on-campus Spectrum Stadium.

ALL "G5s" need to get in line with UCF. It's in each and every "G5" programs interest to follow this model. They NEED us to fill their schedule. The cellar dwellers of the "G5" NEED these games as well. But the fans of programs like Florida, OK, OSU, etc. will not stand for having 2-3 UMASS/Akron/UTEP type games on their home slate every year; especially with decreasing attendance numbers. Get in line with UCF and hold firm. They ("P5") will eventually cave, it's inevitable.

What will be interesting is to see how the P5s fix this for their advantage. Right now, they need the G5’s and FCS for guaranteed home games and wins. But that cost is climbing and the games aren’t treated real well with the strength of schedule component. 

If I was to guess, the way they will start this up for the future will be to expand the playoff system to 8 teams. Then, they will make multiple losses less painful for making the playoff. What then happens is that everyone plays 9 or 10 conference games. That gives these conferences with their own networks better matchups to showcase.

So you know UofH is playing at Apogee this year. You said we don't have a home game against power conference. Houston is in AAC. You just admitted AAC is not a power conference.

USF is a neutral site game lol. A big P5 gets to go play in a NFL stadium in a big city in Florida. That's a no brainer.. really. You can argue that Orlando and UCF is a big city market, but to me it does not have that stigma of a big bad P5 stepping into the little brother's home stadium.

Before this season, CUSA has had a team advance to the round of 32 the past 4 years in the NCAA tournament. 

C-USA went 3-3 last year head to head vs AAC. AAC went 7-12** vs the "P5" and 8-9 vs the OOC "G5". 

AAC sent 7 teams bowling last post season and had a 1-6 record. (8-12 bowl record over 3 years)

C-USA sent 6 teams bowling last post season and had a 4-2 record. (12-10 bowl record over 3 years)

AAC had 11 players taken in the 2019 draft. C-USA had 6. 

 

AAC average 2018 attendance 28.9K. 

C-USA average 2018 attendance 18.9K

And these attendance figures are dramatically hurt by some horribly supported programs such as WKU, Charlotte, and the F_U's. Our division is a better supported division within CUSA (though UTEP at 14.4K doesn't help) with an average attendance of 20.9k. AAC - West division had an average attendance figure of 24.3K. The AAC's water mark in attendance is being held by 4 of 5 schools from the east division in UCF, USF, Cincy, and ECU. Navy is a "west" division school and is 4th in attendance. 

CUSA and AAC isn't as far apart as the sports media and yourself liken them to be. And the MWC conference's overall figures are better than CUSA's and probably just as good as AAC if not better. The differences are minuscule and it's basically splitting hairs. You'll see a clearer picture on 9/28.  

But, carry on. 

 

**The wins were against "P5" powers such as Pitt, Maryland, Illinois, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Arizona, and UCLA. These 7 teams had a combined record of...wait for it....26-46. And in the AAC's 12 losses the average margin of defeat was 24 points. 

Spare us the P6 bullshit. 

 

MWC - 

23.5K average attendance in 2018. Like the AAC, the MWC had 4 teams averaging over 30K a game. 

3-2 in 2018 bowl games (Boise game, arguably their best team, was canceled). 11-7 bowl record over 3 years

12-8 vs OOC "G5" programs. 

10 MWC players drafted in 2019. 

MWC went 3-0 vs the AAC in 2018.

So, take away SMU's creative home attendance numbers and the conference averages are about the same.

Another hot take that will definitely be wrong. 

It's been pulling teeth to try to get the SEC or the ACC to even consider 9 games. And the Big10 has been talking terms on how to drop back down to 8. Most realistic scenario is that everyone drops back to 8 before everyone will ever be at 10. These "opportunity" games aren't going anywhere. If we and our peeps hold firm like the UCF AD suggests it will all play into our hands.

USF, however, plays in the Tampa Bay Bucs’ Raymond James Stadium, so agreeing to 2-for-1 series with Florid and Miami is a win-win; Gator and ‘Cane fans can fill an otherwise half-empty stadium, giving USF needed revenue and their schools a de facto neutral site game.

 

There is 0% chance that Canes fans will occupy up a quarter of that stadium, much less "fill" it...

Not just SMU's, but also Tulane's and Tulsa's. All 3 of them claimed they averaged in the 17-19K per game range in 2018. As we all know, these private school figures are grossly inflated. Not to say that all schools don't inflate, but we know privates do it blatantly. Get those 3 schools to be at least somewhat honest as the publics are somewhat "honest" then the figures would align much closer to the 20.9K average of CUSA-West.

Miami rarely fills their own stadium to 50-60% capacity, let a lone one 2 or 3 hours away vs an opponent they deem as inferior.

      The Band

      I personally think that the playing music over the PA at times when the band would typically be playing has negatively impacted the cadence for when and how the band plays during the games. I don't want to be all old man about it, but if I want to listen to the stuff that is played on the PA system (majority of which I actually do like), I have about 10 different devices I can play that on myself. When I go to a college football game, I want to hear the friggin' band play during timeouts and between plays, when appropriate. It's college football, not an NBA game. When I look back at attending games at Fouts as a student in the 90s', I absolutely remember the band playing, and I enjoyed it then just as I do now. If they were playing other music, maybe they were, but I would have no memory of that whatsoever. Additionally, I know there has been some other negative thoughts about the band overall, and not that I have been in band since I played trumpet as a sophomore in high school so I am no expert, but I was absolutely blown away by the halftime performance this week. I know majority of it was a rehash of other bits and pieces that had already been done this year, but damn that was a strong close.
