"The Manassa Mauler", one of the great heavyweight boxers of his era (early 1920s). Remembered best for his "long count" match against Gene Tunney, whereby Dempsey eventually lost by decision after Tunney was given 14 seconds to recover from a knockdown.

It still stands. Jason Elam of Denver tied it against Jacksonville on 10/25/98. Dempsey's effort came on 11/8/70, against Detroit.

The thin air and 10% extra distance over sea level ball flight certainly helped Elam, but I was watching when it happend, and it was an amazing kick nonetheless.
