This past weekend, our Mean Green Softball Ladies played against some of the best teams in the country at the Tournament in Fresno CA. Teams like #1 UCLA (defending national champs & #1 this season,) #9 Oregon State, always tough Fresno State, and others with many years of team building and development.

Our ladies took them all on with their heads up and didn't back down from anyone! Just think! This is the first softball team at NT since 1988! And there we were facing the "biggies." Coach Segal has done a wonderful job of creating a team with heart and determination. You would have been as impressed as I was.

There were some outstanding play by all our ladies. Plays like a cannon shot throw by Monica Garcia from right field that held the UCLA runner at third. The tough play near second base by Nicole Rodriguez who physically stopped a much larger runner with a tag that left no doubt about our team's attitude. Katie Maxey pitched with authority throughout in every game. These and all the other team members donated to show that we don't back down from anybody. (The UCLA coach made her players run sprints for an hour after playing us!)

If you want to see a team that with spirit and desire, go out and watch them next week locally. You'll catch the intensity and enthusiasm! You don't have to wait until next Fall to feel Mean Green Fever!!! GMG!

Is it true! Sue Enquist made her players run for an hour after the game!

Tell me more, I want more info!

How did you like the facilities in Fresno?

Posted

CAV, the facilities at Fresno State for all sports, including football, baseball and softball, are outstanding. The softball stadium is state-of-the-art! Daily attendance for the tournament ran about 2,000 daily and Sunday it ran up to 3,034. Readers can see the softball stadium on gobulldogs.com.

UCLA's players got a bit of coach Sue Enquist's rath after not blowing us away on Friday. You could watch them running and running and running! You could almost feel sorry for the players. I'll bet is was even funnier after they lost to Oregon State 3-2 on Sunday!

RG_15, you were a vocal force from the sidelines for the Mean Green Ladies. Hopefully others will realize what an enthusiastic bunch of softball players our team has and come out to support them. Thanks for the "insights" on the team.

I'm just sorry I don't live closer to Denton.
