A win in either this game or Saturday’s contest at Florida International would clinch a spot in the top pod, which would result in North Texas playing its final four games against the other top-five teams. It would also secure a top-five seed in the Conference USA tournament.

So if the 5 and 6 seed are separated by a game and the 5 loses all four games in pod play and the 6 wins all four then six stil cannot work their way up?

Nope. Makes the first part of conference huge.

If that’s the case then I can see why the contender did the pods. I thought many people didn’t like the idea, but I think it rewards the top teams and helps them keep there seeding late.

BOCA RATON, Florida — With Conference USA Bonus Play starting next weekend, the North Texas men's basketball team can secure a top pod position in Bonus Play and a top five seed in the Conference USA this week as they travel to South Florida to play Florida Atlantic and FIU.

The Mean Green (20-5, 8-4 C-USA) will first play FAU (14-11, 5-7 C-USA) on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be aired on ESPN + and the Mean Green Sports Network, KHYI 95.3 FM. 

North Texas' 8-4 league record has them sitting it a tie for third-place with Western Kentucky. One game behind the Mean Green and Hilltoppers in the standings is Southern Miss who UNT owns the tiebreaker over after beating them on Jan. 5, 65-62, in Denton.

I’m sick of seeing Smart flail his body around in the paint. He’s lost all of his mobility as well as ball handling skills and it’s only getting worse.

      This gets the PAC to their first goal of full football membership before 2026. It also paves the way for entry into Texas. Perhaps at the suggestion of media advisors? Further expansion later to set up a possible Eastern Division of the PAC is predicted by several fan forums.       I believe Army has been a positive addition to AAC football as far as the ESPN media contract viewership. Especially with the great football season they just had. UNT has had several games on mainline ESPN channels in both football and basketball this school year. I would say the most in a single season in our athletic history. I don't think they would have elevated us if we didn't warrant it with ESPN.

      TxSt is at the right place, at the right time. Tulane and Memphis said no, UNLV and AFA got tied down to the MWC for extra money, it looks like the PAC doesn't want to bring up an FCS school, the AAC options come with a $27M exit fee hurdle. Who else is out there? NMSU? SHSU? The PAC needs to have an 8th full member before July 1st 2026 to keep their FBS designation. They don't have time to wait for options. They need to get schedules, and media partners settled. TxSt pays $5M to get out of the SBC, a very accessible number.

      Agree, everything will depend on the dollar amounts. $12M a team and I think we see some teams making the jump, personally I'm just not sure if they can get much more than what the AAC gets. If the AAC media deal does drop significantly in 2032 I would expect teams to move then, plus you would have no exit fees since you are in between contracts similar to how the Pac12 fell apart. We'll see soon enough who their media partner will be, and what kind of appetite they have for content.
