Now 5-28 from three....

17.5%

Gosh even shooting 25% we'd be winning.

We shot 7-31....22.5%

If we shot 8-31 we're in OT.

Still lots of season left. Still going to the conference tournament with a chance to go to the big dance. The THING that makes me salty is continually losing these games in front of big crowds. Call it petty call it whatever you like, it’s getting old.

Usually our basketball team wins in front of big crowds though.

Wow! Over 8k in attendance and the fourth largest crowd in school history. That’s huge, but sucks to lose in front on a near record crowd.

This Roosevelt Smart thing is the storyline of the year. Went from our leading scorer and the most prolific three-point shooting season in school history to almost single-handedly sinking this team offensively in key conference games. Shooting less than 30% from three in conference play and jacking them up at an astronomical rate. It is becoming very hard to envision him returning to form at any point this season. Not impossible, but doesn’t feel likely.

Also, Mccasland and crew have some big decisions to make this offseason. We definitely need more quality size, we definitely need more shooting, we definitely need a stretch four with size, and we only have two scholarships left.

Alcindor looks like an absolute waste of a scholarship (no other offers) and Tikhonenko hasn’t looked much better two years in (granted, injury and eligibility issues). Jahmiah Simmons has been terrible offensively. J Simmons is here for defense but it really stands out when the guys who are supposed to be the offensive specialists are not playing like it Draper has been terrible in conference play. Muhammad and Wise should help but Wise’s shooting stroke concerns me. Doesn’t look very fluid.

Two spots left and a lot left to improve. Have to either get production out of players who we have not yet been able to or move on. Recruiting has to improve. We need more players who other schools actually wanted.

Good news is if this is the worst it ever gets going forward then it’s not that bad. But man it is disappointing seeing these type of offensive performances so frequently in conference play almost two full years into the Mccasland era.

I know you stress this but I'm not finding any offers for Jhivvan Jackson or Keaton Wallace other than UTSA. Maybe instead of worrying about if a guy has 5 other offers from failing programs we just need recruit pure scorers. We've got a good defensive squad but nobody who you can really depend on consistently putting up buckets at a high rate. Let's go for some gamers no matter the size and let them do what they do naturally - score.

ODU is struggling.  If they lost we'd be tied in the loss column with WKU and ODU, a game back of UTSA.  The problem is they all have tiebrakers over us and we'd be #4 going into pod play.

Getting players with no other offers because you like them is one thing. Getting players with no other offers because you can’t out recruit other schools is an issue. We have too many players who no one else wanted and are either net minus players in conference play or can’t even get off the bench. We basically have three guys redshirting. We don’t have near enough players who are proving that they are worthy of holding a scholarship on a good CUSA team. Or any CUSA team for that matter.

Came into town from Houston and man was that game a kick in the nuts. We had a great crowd so somebody did their job. The halftime entertainment from the truck give away to a veteran and the jump rope kids from Fisco was good. We had a quality opponent and every reason to play a great game. But the fans around me were pretty much underwhelmed. Even though they made a run at the end the crowd really did not think we had it in us. They were the better team overall. We don’t know what a mid range jumper is. Seems like we play soft and somehow make exciting runs at the end of games but that is not a successful strategy. Just frustrated since that large of a crowd was there on a really shitty weather Saturday. It was our to hook some fair weather fans or new ones...

Jackson was one of the top players in Texas and had a New Mexico offer. Wallace had a UTA offer

Admitting up front I’m no expert, but can someone explain to me why McCasland sometimes screams at/reminds Woolridge and Gibson to hold back beyond the arc and wait until 15 seconds are left on the shot clock before we start to drive to the bucket?  We did this when there was barely 2 minutes left in the game, were rushed and ended up turning it over.  I don’t understand it unless you’re sitting on a big lead in the second half, but he does this regularly.  Why?

I don't know.

That was the worst half of basketball I have ever witnessed.  The three pointer by WK at the end exemplified the half.  Second half like another game.  I do not believe I have ever been more disappointed.  That first half was pitiful, you knew they could not come back but almost does not count. WOW 😞

Let me offer a bit of a different perspective.

We shot 1-12 from beyond the arc in the 1st half.  We turned the ball over too much.  Smart took REALLY REALLY bad shots.  And we went into the locker room down 15.

Given all of that...

They SHOULD have ran away and hid in the second half, especially given their size advantage.  They SHOULD have used their basketball pedigree to make it a wire to wire laugher.  We SHOULD have folded up tent and quit if you remember any moment of the Benford debacle.

But they didn’t, and we didn’t.  We lost by 3 on a night when Smart was an all-around liability, Duffy sat the bench, and the other team missed a grand total of two (2) free throws.

The result sucks...really bad.  But I’m not ready to pretend this team doesn’t have everything it needs to make a run in Frisco.

THIS! AMEN!!  And yes, look where we were just 2 years ago. I am very proud of this team and it’s coaches. These young men make me proud to wear Green. COME ON, 8,200!!
