That USU Bowl game looks bad because Mason got hurt early. We probably still lose, and its probably a convincing loss, but it isn't 52-13, either...

I agree. We threw 4 picks that gave them and took away from us 4 possessions. If Fine plays that game that doesn't happen. They were still an overall better team that would've covered the 8 point spread to the tune of something like 38-28. If we had Easly and Rico it's a pick em game, that's the kind of impact those two players had.

With a healthy Easly, we don't lose to LaTech, ODU, and possibly UAB.  Torrey was a beast down the stretch, but there were some short yardage runs where Easly would have been the difference.  I hope he comes back as strong as ever.

Ugh. This nonsense again.

Even if there is some truth to this myth, why did the OC call plays that didn’t adapt to this new situation?

Easly is a different style of runner than Torrey.  Easly ran over an Arkansas defender.  As great as Torrey was this past season, that was not his style.  It's not a dig on Torrey, they're just different.

Why didn't the OC make adjustments?  Maybe he did?

With a healthy Easly, maybe our game plan fails and we still lose to them?  No way to know.

You can only use so much hypothetical when you try to add perspective to an argument, then it's kind of a beat down.  Because you're assuming a ton.

I remember someone threw out on another thread, after we beat FAU: "would we have beaten FAU if Fine never had to leave the game?"  Who knows?!  Would we have beaten FAU if Shanbour had to stay in until the end?

Back to short yardage: we have what we have, and that's two backs that produced nearly identically results on short yardage.  What "style" they are as they run with the ball is secondary.

Torrey had plenty of tackle breaking to do in the backfield, plus many misreads of the line. There's only so much that can be helped.
