The decision at Houston will likely and hilariously be spun as a nod to grander ambition, that the school needs a higher-profile coach to climb back from the netherworld of the Group of Five and into the Big 12. But here’s what this Houston football Christmas Coup failed to take into account – everyone around college athletics is laughing at you.

The biggest guffaws are coming from the Big 12, which has never held a strong institutional view of Houston in the first place.

“The actions Houston is taking will not help in any way position Houston for the future,” said a Big 12 source. “In fact, just the opposite. Today and the way this was handled only reeks of desperation. Obviously there was no studying of those who built programs for the future the right way.”

Yikes... Pretty scathing commentary from the writer and sources. On one hand, it's kind of the P5's fault for creating an environment where G5 teams have to sell their souls to get ahead. But Houston appears to be doing itself no favors.

Boise has done it consistently but quietly.

UCF has been phenomenal on the field but jumps up and down and throws a tantrum.

Houston has had some on field success. But shows desperation and seems to give coaches 1-2 years to go undefeated or they get fired.

Three different methods. Same result.

P5 does not want you.

We're missing the lead story.  If Holgorsen leaves WKU, would Seth be a candidate to replace him?

If Seth didn't leave for KSU, he won't leave for WVU.

Nah! A credible source tells me that Seth isn't fond of banjos.

I must have missed something.  Is Holdgerson out at WVU?  If not, he's not going to leave for a G5, and certainly not to Huston.

He actually might. He openly wanted the Tech job, and word is he wants the hell out of Morgantown and they're good with it.

I love anything that makes Houston eat shit. On the other hand, I wonder if this isn’t just a typical P5 media mouth parroting the usual lines that the G5 schools are inferior no matter what.

Don't give up 70 points to Army. Dont lose multiple shootouts and dont have Jacketgate. 8 wins are kinda worthless when you start the season 7-1. Yeah we had over 13 guys on the 2 deep out with injuries and declaring for the draft but eh. Almost every loss being a blowout is unacceptable. At least it is at UH.

Clearly standards aren't as high at UNT

Please, go away. Go anywhere, but not here.

To get rid of a coach with back to back 8-5  it would have to be a hell of a hire! Holgerson would fit that. Who else are possible contenders? I guess the plan is to keep App around till you find somebody you think is better?

Much better position for one thing, but very doubtful Seth would be interested in WVA.

He won 7 his first year, now eight.  I think he should get another year.
