The 49ers upset Seattle in OT yesterday.  Jeff had 7 carries for 46 yards and the team’s longest run of 16 yards.  He was targeted only once on a pass, which he didn’t catch.  He was responsible for the team’s only fumble, which resulted in a turnover.

Jeff made two highlights.  One was his fumble, which was at the end of a big run.  The other was a long run that set up the winning field goal in the 2nd OT.

He's so explosive, but if he can't hang on to the ball he won't be in the league much longer.  It is something that can be fixed though.  He never fixed it in college, and obviously he hasn't fixed it in the pros.  Melvin Gordon coughed it up alot in his rookie year for the Chargers, but now he has some of the surest ball security in the league.

Problem is Gordon was going to get every opportunity to fix it as a high draft pick. Wilson won't have that luxury as an UDFA. He needs to finish the year strong.

How much confidence do you have in RB Jeff Wilson Jr. carrying the ball in that final drive considering his history of fumbling the last two games, also today in the first half?

“It was tough, especially how it’s gone since he’s been in and what happened today, but [RB Matt] Breida went out on that last drive, so you don’t have much of a choice with it and now that he went in and the way he finished running and the fact that he did hold on to the ball, it was great to him. When he started off that fumble early, then dropped a screen pass, we were going to keep Breida in as much as possible. Then Jeff went in at the end because Breida got hurt and it was awesome the way it ended because now that should give him some confidence and make him ready to get out next week.”

Seems like they're going to continue to give him his chance.  If he can not fumble the ball in the these last two games, things should look up for him next season.

He also had a really bad personal foul call that killed another drive. Had the good run, but it was a rough day at the office. Between that and the Olawale drop.... tough weekend all around.

I saw that. Not sure what he was doing there, but instead of throwing the ball straight ahead to the ref, he underhand tossed it to 9 o’clock and hit the Seattle player in the chest with it. Not hard, and not even sure it was intentional, but it was a costly penalty for SF at the time.

Found this quote in an article today.  I have said it before and will continue to say it, he continues to represent himself and this university well.  They have nothing but praise for him with the glaring exception of the fumbles:

"“We’ll see,” Shanahan said. “I do hope, and I do have confidence that he can (stop fumbling) because we see him every day. We like the person. He works at it. The game doesn’t seem too big for him. He’s very well-liked around here, not just because he’s a friendly guy, but because people respect how he works and what he does. Jeff’s not going to make excuses. He knows exactly what he did (against the Seahawks) and how big that (fumble) could have cost us. He’s going to get another opportunity. I hope he lives up to it.”

With Brieda injured in the 1st and Morris inactive today Wilson is it the rest of the way for the 49ers. Too bad you can only watch him with Sunday Ticket.

11 carries for 27 yards so far.

2 catches for 11 yards.

And that’s how it ended for Wilson today.

You can see one of Jeffery’s catches in the 3rd quarter highlights (4:36).

if he learns to hold on to the ball he can be a big part of the team. I think is only a matter of time he breaks off a big run.

I agree. He has the size to succeed. I hope he gets a fair shot.
