Sure, they may not have wanted us. But if the bowl game is a CUSA tie in and there is no CUSA team who cares what they want. It's called getting nosed up and told to sit down.

It may be a CUSA tie in, but it is owned by ESPN...what ESPN wants is what ESPN gets.  Same reason we played an East Coast team on a Thursday night at 8:30pm/9:30pm est.  TV gets what TV wants

So is he telling us there was an actual choice here? A choice for the FR Bowl? Hard to really pull that out of that as concrete, but it sounds sort of like that.

No.  CUSA had the choice, not NT.  They chose to put Marshall in the Gasparilla.

He said EITHER Gas or First Responder bowl. I am assuming either in reference from the New Mexico Bowl. Which is fine. Gasparilla Bowl is a good destination for an east coast team. But his wording for the First Responder Bowl doesn't clear anything up, just merks it up a little bit.

For all of those of you complain about "too many bowls", every team bowling has at least 7 wins, there are four 6 win teams staying home.

Wow. Seems like yesterday 6 wins meant a pretty good chance.

Persoannly, I think this is good.

Yes either gas or FR.  ARE WE IN THE GAS? No.  The choice wasn't ours. The tie in choice was CUSA sending a team to GAS or FR.  The league decided to put Marshall in the GAS, not us in the FR.

which makes since.  marshall was in the New Mexico bowl last year, so sending them back across the country would be pretty crappy.

I am going to guess that the New Mexico Bowl pushed really hard to get North Texas.  We are the only Conference USA school that would send any fans to fill up their hotel rooms and eat at their restaurants.

1st Respondes Bowl

Boston College vs Boise State

Did CUSA get bullied here?

CUSA has always had the tie in...why did they have to choose between FR and Gas?

For ESPN....Boston College/Boise State is a better matchup.

Sounds like ESPN made this choice and told CUSA to shut up and go elsewhere.

Looks like CUSA didn’t do FR last year, either.

In 2017 CUSA traded out the First Responders bowl earlier in the season.

While I would have personally preferred a local DFW bowl, I wondering if this means the conference and school have an internal strategy here; a local bowl once every 3 years and no conference bowl repeats.  Of course this mean we probably get the HI for our next out of town bowl.
