LAS CRUCES , NM ( 2/29/04 ) – The North Texas women’s tennis team continued its solid play over the weekend, picking up wins over UTEP and Colorado State that gave it a school-record tying nine wins through its first 12 matches.

North Texas handed both UTEP and Colorado State 4-3 setbacks on Friday and Sunday, respectively, while dropping a 5-2 decision to New Mexico State on Saturday.

The Mean Green’s 9-3 start matches the 1980-81 team’s record through 12 matches, which is the best record in school history through 12 matches.

After winning against the Miners on Friday, NT had its season-long four-match winning streak snapped on Saturday by the Aggies. However, NT responded with a thrilling win over the Rams on Sunday by breaking a 3-3 tie in doubles play.

Krysta Lee, Megan Schmulbach and Ingrid Stockinger continued their strong play this spring, all three winning two of their three matches on the weekend. Krysta Lee and Stockinger have both won four of their last five matches, while Schmulbach is 6-1 over her last seven outings.

Krysta Lee and Katherine Harris paired up to lead the Mean Green in doubles action, posting a 3-0 record last weekend. Holly Lee and Schmulbach also played well, finishing with a 2-1 mark. Holly Lee and Schmulbach are 7-1 in flight three this season.

The Mean Green returns home for a match Friday against Denver at 2 p.m. The match will be played at Denton Country Club. NT also plays SMU in Dallas on Saturday and will host Louisiana-Lafayette ( Goldfield Tennis Center ) on Sunday to wrap up this weekend’s action.

Hopefully some fans can make it out Friday for the Denver Match @ Denton CC. Denver is probably the #2 or 3 team in conference.

They also play SMU at SMU and then close with ULL at Goldfield: home match good time to see the ladies in action.
