This is why a 4 team playoff is dumb. Expand to 16 and we don’t even have to have this discussion.

Just my opinion after years of fandom: there is no playoff discussion that satisfies everyone.

Even in college bball, where you have 68 teams making the major postseason tourney, you have deserving teams wondering how they get left out in favor of some really BS squads.

In your scenario, there will always be that 17th team wanting to know why it didn't make the cut.

I agree, though, that it should be more than 4 lol.  As long as there is a playoff for an national FBS title, bare minimum it should include the champions of the FBS conferences.  As it stands, they might as well just call it the P5 title.

The difference in the two scenarios is that when you're the 16th or 17th best team in the country you haven't had as great of a year as the 4th or 5th best team. You also aren't leaving an undefeated team out of the playoffs. If your argument is "we're the 16th best team in the country but you said we're 17," I don't fee that bad for you that you got left out.

16 teams with every conference champion getting in plus a handful of at large.  This way theoretically everyone has a chance... just like BB.

And then it is no longer a monopoly of the highest awards. Just as no one complains of BB being a monopoly.  Those majoritively speaking, the power five conferences tend to still last longer than the non P5 schools in BB.

16 too many.  No one will agree to it.

8 team:

ACC champ, B1G champ, Big12 champ, Pac12 champ, SEC champ, highest-ranked G5 champ, At-large, At-large.

I like this scenario but why would the P5 agree to it?

Pressure from Pac12 & Big12 schools & all G5 schools & ESPN or Fox, who would no doubt make a TON of $$ off it.

They generated 31.9 million last year. The NCAA would like it but P5 doesn't want to share $ or lose championships to "inferior" programs they don't think they need.

People are getting tired of seeing the same two teams playing every year for the national championship. The playoff should be expanded to include at least one school not from the so called P5. At this point it’s not so much the college football playoff but more of an invitational.

Klatt's point is the schedule you play....if UCF, UNT, USF. etc. played in a P5 conference what would their record be?

Just because we are fans of a G5 team doesn't mean it's not a good point.

Maybe, but Alabama plays Arkie St., LaLa, and The Citadel this year with seven home games and one neutral site.  They're basically a Sun Belt team when not playing in conference and play a whopping four games on the road.  So wherein G5s are trying to make their schedules as good RPI-wise as possible, what's their excuse?

That is a silly argument to me.

If we played in a P5 conference we would get:

- P5 money

- The ability to tell recruits that we are eligible to play for championships (Do you really think that, given our location, we WOULDN’T start pulling in 4 and 5 star kids).

- Additional TV exposure, thus additional fawning over us by the Herbstreit’s of the world (and thus magical pre-season “rankings” that we have to screw up to lose).

These P5 schools are literally MADE by the system they have set up, and the system is designed and maintained specifically to keep the division and perception alive.

Let me ask you this, and be honest.

Imagine if Seth Littrell were the world’s best recruiter and convinced all of the best talent in DFW to stay home.  He then took that team and blew out every opponent on this year’s schedule by 50.  Then, he went into the conference title game and beat our opponent by 45.

What would our end of year ranking be, and what bowl would we play in?   And would any of the P5’s be blowing up Wren’s phone to set up an OOC game to show that we truly are inferior?

You know the answers to these questions, and you know that the actual talent level on “G5” teams has nothing to do with how they are treated.

They would make even more with a 16 team playoff.
