I guess the Ray emoji showed up while I was offline earlier this year.

So, when do I give/get one?  What's the street value of 10 Rays?

Is it for when someone is completely lost on the subject or what?

My understanding is the Ray is supposed to be reserved for epic posts, equivalent to a standing ovations, a bow, or a citizen Kane or Rudy groundskeeper clap.

It gives you a "positive" vote, so it's to be used for good when a "Thanks" trophy, Heart, or Upvote is just not enough to convey how you feel about the post.

Thanks.  Wasn't sure if it was supposed to be for something good or bad.  Now I got it.

Ray is a positive +1 value.  We like to use it for sentimental +1 votes but it's purpose and whether you choose to use it is up to you.

If you have a twisted view of the poster, you could visualize relieving yourself on the poster's leg as you give him a Ray.

Not that I've ever done that.
