DENVER, Col. - Arkansas built a big lead and appeared to be on their way to a second win in as many games. But then a series of events led to Colorado State rallying to take a 34-27 victory on Saturday night.

Some series of events led to Arkansas losing after holding a 27-9 lead with 7:28 remaining in the third quarter. The Hogs appeared to be ready to put the game away when Deon Stewart returned a punt 45 yards to the Colorado State 28.

However, on first down Cole Kelley threw to Jordan Jones who was unable to come down with a foot in bounds. After a review, the call on the field stood and the Hogs had a second-and-10. Kelley then rushed for three yards. A false start on true freshman Noah Gatlin moved the ball back to the Colorado State 30. On third-and-12, Kelley threw to Chase Harrell who couldn't come down with the pass. Connor Limpert then attempted a 47-yard field goal that was no good.

The Rams immediately went on a seven-play, 70-yard drive that ended with K.J. Carta-Samuels passing four yards to Preston Williams for a touchdown. Carta-Samuels added the two-point conversion with a pass to Cameron Butler. That pulled the Rams to within 27-17 with 2:46 remaining in the third quarter.

I like how they said their running game was almost nonexistent in their first game. Yes, they torched CSU in that category, but I like our run defense so far. We held SMU in check and that was supposed to be their strength.

      Transfer portal is killing P4 as well as G5

      You know, the playoff system to create a champion is better, but I still loved the way CFB was when conferences were regional, they had their champion tied into a specific bowl game, there weren't so many spare bowls featuring matchups that nobody cares about between 6-6 teams, and each season, the end of the year was talking about who had the better resume if this team loses or wins in their bowl game. I grew up loving the SWC and the Big Eight. Each year, the goal was to make it to Dallas or Miami and see where the chips fell. You were neighbors and friends with grads of those schools. I'm sure it was the same in the old version of the SEC and the ACC. It was just a fun time--and if things went great, the Cotton Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, or the Rose Bowl would be for a national title. But if not, you watched them all because the games mattered in the big scheme of it all and they were on all day and night on New Years Day, along with the Fiesta Bowl, and then, later, the Citrus Bowl for the ACC Champ. Its a bygone era, no doubt, but the games had great coaches all over the country and players we got to know over the years. Yes, there was plenty of cheating, and yes, the big boys controlled the game, but it was more fun. Whatever it is we have today, I feel sorry for people who think CFB today is more enjoyable to follow and support. They probably think we are olds that have Good Ol Day Syndrome and that is fine. I can't really refute any of that. But it was a sport I and many of my age (50s now) loved and followed intensely. Today, we are dropping out very quickly, as we see the farce the portal and NIL are making of this great sport. Very sad...

      JUCO players will have 4 years NCAA eligibility remaining

      It's going to be interesting to see how the taxpayers see this (for state schools, N/A for private). Similar to the concerns regarding spending local tax $'s to build NFL stadiums, using tax dollars to run a minor league FB team may stir some controversy. I may be wrong since I don't keep up with all of the latest media payouts, etc, but I think there's not a lot of schools that actually make money on athletics (and this is BEFORE we start paying them directly). https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/research/Finances/2023RES_DI-RevExpReport_FINAL.pdf If UT essentially starts running a minor league FB team out of the school and makes money, should the tax payers expect a refund or cut in taxes directed to UT? What if they're losing money?

      priority is The American. Don't care if the victor is a system sibling, this loss by Rice only hurts our conference.
