I think it’s a lot more complex than just this question. This early in the season, being the second blow out and a tough game coming up where your starters are going to have to play 4 quarters I can see why you leave them in a little longer if for not much more than conditioning. You just can’t simulate the physical demands of a game in practice.

It depends. I'm still a bit concerned with the OL/running game. Glad we got some backup QB reps.

OL and running game were not getting much push against an inferior opponent.  Again, it appeared the RB group struggled at times in blocking assignments on pass protection.  And even though Mason didn't get sacked a lot (did he even get sacked? don't have the stats in front of me), he still took some big hits hanging in the pocket.  He should have been out of the game after the first half, stats be damned.  

Based on what we've seen, my assumption is if we want a chance at Arkansas, we will have to win it on Mason Fine's arm.  Despite losing to Colorado State, they only allowed 40 yards total of rushing, with their top rusher being held to 27 yards.  We'll have to pick them apart through the air.  Arkansas had one sack and 4 QB hurries in the game.  For comparison, Colorado had 3 sacks and 6 QB hurries against Colorado State, where Colorado thrashed them 45 to 13.  Going back to the Eastern Illinois game for Arkansas, they only had 1 sack and 4 QB hurries.  Arkansas' pass rush seems to be anemic.  If our line (and RBs) can hold them off long enough to pick apart the secondary, we just may come out of hog country with a W next week.

Its early in the season and the team needs to gel more, its really naive to say its about padding stats, its about getting more game day experience say before you play Arkansas next week.

I’d buy that if Mason hadn’t come out of the game precisely after throwing the pass that put him over 400 yards

Giving him a chance to make 400 yards back to back helps moral, the simple fact is the first team going into Arkansas has 3 quarters played against SMU and what was last night 2.25(?) quarters against Word.  With still some offensive issues on the first team as far as run blocking and running are concerned. Total  first team  offense played this year  is 1 game and 1.25 quarters of play, yeah I was happy with everything the coaches did last night as far as leaving people in.

We should have assigned a manager t[o hide Mason Fines helment at halftime so that he could not play in the second half.  If he goes down due to an injury our season changes........a lot

Players like to play.  If we have team or individual stats at or near the top of the nation, it creates a lot of buzz for the school and the program.  That's a good thing for a program like ours in our current stage of development where we are trying to build our brand and increase exposure and national recognition.

I heard Litrell say on the radio that he making sure the team comes out after half time ready to play so he thought it was important to get the 1st string out on the first drive.  He didnt want to see any let up.
