SMU’s season opener could not have gone worse.

The Mustangs were outgained, outplayed and outcoached in Saturday night’s 46-23 loss to North Texas at Apogee Stadium in Denton.

“Everything that could go wrong went wrong,” SMU head coach Sonny Dykes said.

SMU’s offense looked out of sync for the better part of the night. It started on the first drive, when the Mustangs went three and out after two penalties and a sack. Five of the Mustangs’ six first-half possessions ended in punts. On four of those drives, SMU went three and out. By the end of the first half, the Mustangs had just 24 total yards in the first half and only 46 by the end of the third quarter.

“We never could get anything going,” Dykes said. “We couldn’t get on track. It just seemed like we were sluggish.”

Ben Hicks’ struggles echoed those of the Mustangs’. He was under pressure all night long and had trouble throwing accurate passes to his receivers. He only completed three passes for 27 yards in the first half and threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by North Texas’ Kemon Brooks to put the Mean Green up 14-0.

Hicks rebounded in the fourth quarter, completing six of nine passes for 197 yards and two scores, but it was too little, too late.

If that writer is from SMU, then they should not try to say their education is better than a UNT education because he could not do enough research before writing to realize that it is Kemon Hall and not Kemon Brooks. How do you merge the two corners into one name? I could have excepted a typo if he had Kemon Gall or something like that since G is next to H on the keyboard, but to miss the last name completely, inexcusable journalism.

All about them.  Apparently SMU's performance is completely responsible for the outcome of the game.  Apparently UNT's performance wasn't worth mentioning.

I hope UIW does bad next week or we might be in trouble.

Any thoughts by Dykes that the offense showed improvement in the fourth quarter should be tempered by the fact that they were playing against our second and third team players. If you never thought a frog could eat a mustang, keep your eye on the score next Saturday.

Whenever SMU fans bring up our series record it really makes me think of the relevant modern record they have with TCU.  Difference is we are closing that gap while their record is on a continual downslide into being non-competitive.  They should actually appreciate us as rivals in that what we have (in the modern era) could be considered an actual rivalry.  This is in stark contrast to what TCU has been doing to them, game after game, since Y2K.

A 2-15 record against your "rival" in the modern era is nothing to be proud about.

They play Friday.  Just want to make sure nobody misses the chance to see that ass whoopin.

It was only after we pulled our starters we got scored on. I hated pulling the starters so we could preserve the shut out, but I also see the value in getting 2/3 reps.

This year we need to beat Chad Morris and get a win in San Antonio.  Two delicious goals to strive for . Let’s get a cusa championship and win a bowl game too.

      In a city of 4 million people, I'd sure hope you'd have at least double the attendance of little ol' San Marcos. The only reason ya'll ever sniffed a 5 star recruit is because E.O. was a momma's boy that didn't want to leave home (like most UH students actually). Nobody was talking smack, UH fans are just low class losers and overall poor sports. The only reason you're in the BIG 12 is your daddy Tillman paid for it. Nobody cares about UH in Houston, it's all about UT, A&M and LSU.

      You cant talk about a fanbase when we double your attendance. Funny how 4 and 5 star guys come play football and basketball in 3rd Ward but won't even look in San Marcos' direction. When opposing fans talk smack and try to start fights atnthe game, they get beer, red paint, etc dumped on them. Oh well. Texas Tech does even worse stuff. Hell, everything Tech and UH play each other, there's always a brawl in the stands. Lmao
