60 mins. UNT defending well, but not getting much of any pressure on Santa Clara, who didn't really must make chances. But SC spends more time near the UNT 18 than vice versa. UNT plays more for counter.

I am just afraid that SC having clearly more possession and UNT having to chase the ball more, will end in UNT tiring.

That was really ugly soccer on our part. Granted I only saw the last 25 minutes of play. But it reminded me of typical Hedlund soccer... which drives me crazy. And is the kind of style that won’t win us big games.  It is a low percentage style of play against decent possession teams. Possession beats long ball most every time.

That was a questionable penalty call but I could see it coming. 1-0 loss off the penalty. Onto the next one.

The foul was pretty blatant. Not a smart move... especially when you had the player already close off her own angle for any real scoring opportunity (save for a blunder by the keep). It just wasn’t necessary.

This.  Remember the post above later in the year.

This is something I have said the last 10 years, unfortunately.  I understand why we have/keep Hedlund.  We win games with him.  And he has a good program.  But, CUSA and even the Sunbelt weren't known for great soccer really.  And our style isn't all that 'clean'.  We just have low percentage chances of actually winning games against tournament caliber teams come the end of the season simply because possession based teams only get better as a season moves on while a long ball style team that relies on the counter pretty much stays the same.

I agree.  It is hard to argue with Hedlund's results, but the system hasn't changed and I agree with everything you have said.  I get excited about the team come play-off time and then am disappointed because we are so conservative.  I attended the NCAA game in Lubbock a couple of years ago and we always seemed to just sit and wait instead of attacking.  I am no expert on the game of soccer, but I have watched this over and over against top teams and it drives me crazy.
