It's no secret that the P5's couldn't care less about the G5 schools. They control the $$ and would be happy to see most, if not all G5 go to FCS. I do not see the opportunities for any G5's to move to P5 any time soon; more like the P5's will try and reduce the current numbers in their ranks (hint, hint AAC you are not going to be invited to make it a P6).

The G5's need to get off their asses and work together with regional OOC games to reduces the cost and allow more fans to travel. The "best case" would be for some of the schools to stop thinking they're "too good" to be in the same conference with "X" and start working together on regional G5 conferences that will allow for lower travel cost and greater fan travel. "TV" revenue is not going to be the deal breaker for most schools.

If P5's want to play games against G5's they need to work on one-for-one games or two-for-one with the "higher" programs. If there is not a home game for the G5 they need to go after $$$ (if they work together they can earn a lot more money). I would also like to see us, and other G5's be a lot more careful to sign deals years in advance; if the market changes, and it will most likely go up, you don't want to be getting paid the "old" rate which is now much lower than the going rate.

I have to agree with the regional conference but some schools will never swallow the pill because they are the next one to jump to the P5. We know SMUT would not caught dead be with us in the conference.   There are the next to jump  up to the the P5🙄.

What exactly does SMU add to a P5 conference.

"we were ranked in the 1980s" doesn't do it

The perfect G5 leagues are the MWC and MAC--both are fully regional and both have schools that don't play politics with who they won't setup shop with in a conference setup.

The SBCUSAAC are the opposite. SMU, UTEP, and LT are among the teams that have made it clear that they want nothing to do with schools near them being in a conference setup with them. UNT, NMSU, and ULM have all be hurt by this. I suspect that USF and UCF want nothing to do with FAU or FIU, just like UAB has never wanted much to do with Troy or probably even South Alabama. Even now, UTSA scoffs at Texas State because they got to move up to CUSA and left the bobcats to stay in the SBC.

The perfect UNT setup has always looked like this, in a dream world:

UNT, SMU, UTEP, NMSU,  Rice, UH, UTSA, Texas State, Tulane, ULL, Tulsa, Arky State, La Tech, USM, Troy, and UAB.

Two divisions, great travel partners for basketball and other sports, and very easy regional travel for cost containment and gate receipts. It'll never happen, but it would improve things greatly for everyone in these three conferences to line up this way.

they add nothing at all, but they are SMUT and that makes them a player or so they think.

Not so sure that SMU is worthy of being were they are much less higher.

SMU has tried to thwart NT's entry into the same conference in the past.

However, they were agreeable to a long series because it made great financial sense and they considered it an easy game.  That financial carrot is there and SMU's attendance needs the boost much more than NT.

Also SMU has one vote in a conference, and I doubt their sway is all that much.
