So, I was reading the article about Mason Fine and could he throw for 5000 yards when I noticed this article about Throwback Thursday and it featured Houston at North Texas in 1975. I was about 6 when this game was played and my only care in the world back then was playing outside and getting dirty. It was interesting to watch that film. I can't remember the last time I ever saw a receiver get in a 3 point stance. North Texas ran the I formation, the veer, the wing-T and other formations. Haven't seen those in years. What was most hysterical was seeing that Houston Cougar mascot. I bet they are glad that is gone. Haha. Can someone who was old enough to remember Mean Green football that year tell me what they have on the sides of their helmets? I cannot tell because there are really no closeups.

Without digging back through the video, was pass interference a spot of the foul penalty back then?

They called interference on Houston in the end zone and put the ball on the one.  It looked like the line of scrimmage was farther back than the 15.

Overall, what a completely different game.  That no step place kicker frightened me.

Heres the 1976 DCTF cover so it should be the 1975 helmet

Great shot, but I really wanted to know what North Texas had on the side of their helmets.

John Thomas "J. T." Smith (born October 29, 1955) is a former professional American football player who played in the National Football League from 1978 to 1990. A 6'2", 185-lb. undrafted wide receiver and punt returner from the University of North Texas, Smith played for the Washington Redskins, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the St.Louis/Phoenix Cardinals. His best year as a professional came during the strike shortened 1987 seasonfor the Cardinals when he led the NFL with 91 receptions for 1,117 yards.

J.T Smith has to be one of the most forgotten players that ever graduated from North Texas.  And yet, next to Abner Haynes and Joe Greene, he was one of the most successful in the NFL.

Sorry, I thought you knew that was during the Flying Worm era. I loved those uniforms, not so much the green on green, but the two tones of green and the logo were the best.
