There are so many good things happening at our beloved university, thanks in part to Dr. Smatresk and Wren Baker.  We are finally beginning to realize our past and heritage that, IMHO, has been far too long overlooked and/or ignored. Honoring Joe Greene should have been done a long time ago.  I made a post a few days ago about the new emblem of Texas that will be displayed along with the SOW on the Apogee 50 yard line and how we have begun to "claim" our piece of Texas heritage. Some of you missed the meaning of that post, but for me, UT, A&M, Texas Tech, Texas State have grasped the meaning of "heritage." All have something in their brand/logo that reflects the state whether it be the Star or the big, bold State on their basketball courts. As the University of North TEXAS, we have every right, and should claim our piece of Texas"heritage" as well. I predict we'll see the same logo on the basketball court as well next season. Be proud of our past, celebrate our heroes and be proud to be "Texian!" Now, if we can just get the statues of Greene, Roy Orbison, and others, it will be complete.

Congratulations to Charles Edward Greene (I wonder if anyone ever thought to try and call him Chuck), you deserve this level of recognition. 

 

And as I've already mentioned in another thread, the pathfinders of Texas college sports integration, Abner Haynes and Leon King, also deserve recognition.  Hopefully before Abner Haynes passes away.

Well deserved recognition.

Probably the same way that my brother (Robert Leon) ended up with the nickname "Butch".  My aunt gave it to him so that he wouldn't have to go through life as a Jr. 

Everyone that's ever heard that story didn't see "Butch" as an upgrade.

      TX State to the PAC 2?

      This gets the PAC to their first goal of full football membership before 2026. It also paves the way for entry into Texas. Perhaps at the suggestion of media advisors? Further expansion later to set up a possible Eastern Division of the PAC is predicted by several fan forums. PAC West: Wash St, Ore St, Fresno St, Boise St, Utah St, SDSU PAC East: Colo St., Texas St, "X", "X", "X", "X"

      I believe Army has been a positive addition to AAC football as far as the ESPN media contract viewership. Especially with the great football season they just had. UNT has had several games on mainline ESPN channels in both football and basketball this school year. I would say the most in a single season in our athletic history. I don't think they would have elevated us if we didn't warrant it with ESPN.

      TX State to the PAC 2?

      TxSt is at the right place, at the right time. Tulane and Memphis said no, UNLV and AFA got tied down to the MWC for extra money, it looks like the PAC doesn't want to bring up an FCS school, the AAC options come with a $27M exit fee hurdle. Who else is out there? NMSU? SHSU? The PAC needs to have an 8th full member before July 1st 2026 to keep their FBS designation. They don't have time to wait for options. They need to get schedules, and media partners settled. TxSt pays $5M to get out of the SBC, a very accessible number.

      Agree, everything will depend on the dollar amounts. $12M a team and I think we see some teams making the jump, personally I'm just not sure if they can get much more than what the AAC gets. If the AAC media deal does drop significantly in 2032 I would expect teams to move then, plus you would have no exit fees since you are in between contracts similar to how the Pac12 fell apart. We'll see soon enough who their media partner will be, and what kind of appetite they have for content.
