He was 190-146 at North Texas with only two losing seasons in 11 years as the head coach. He took us to our first two NCAA tournaments and was a great representative of our school.
Why should he be? Jones's record as a HC at NT is 91-89, not exactly HOF worthy. NT's standard for coaches inclusion is apparently more a result of longevity than success.
He did have a descent run and a Western Division championship, and was an excellent representative of NT. So he will get in the HOF. Frankly, NT just has not historically had enough success to warrant the crazy numbers of hof inductees.
This will never happen as long as media deals exist to televise (monetize) games. Whichever version of college sports exists, the NCAA and schools will seek out media deals because they need the money at the very least for operations costs. Those that can make a profit will want that as well.
