We recently had a player commit and then decommit 2 days later. If you read into this tweet he is basically saying going to UNT doesn’t give him a chance to make it to the NFL. The last time we had a player drafted was 2003 (2004?) that’s 15 YEARS ago. I love UNT, but can you really blame a guy for not coming here when we can’t get anybody drafted? We don’t have much of a chance of getting someone drafted this year. Jeff would have had a chance if he hadn’t been injured pretty much every year. Kishawn McClain saw a huge drop off in production this year. Trevor Moore is consistent, but it’s rare for kickers to get drafted (could be a good UFA). We don’t really have anyone next year with a good draft stock. Our best chance of getting someone drafted is if Mason Fine can put up 4500-5500 yards with at least a 2.5:1 TD:INT ratio for the next 2 seasons. I love this school, but we can’t be surprised when we lose kids when we can’t get anyone drafted.

Neither drafted, which was the point of Austin’s post.

But I guess the propaganda machine never stops around here.

Soooo Both Robertson and Orr were not drafted but have made a big impact in the NFL. The school doesn’t get you into the NFL, the player does. If you work your ass off good things happen.

Jerry Rice went to Alabama right? Carson Wentz went to Texas tooo!! No wait, that’s wrong they didn’t go to big well known Pro producing schools.

That could well be the point of his tweet, or it could be that he feels a degree from Vanderbilt will open more doors than a degree from North Texas.

Got any suggestions for addressing that?

And you show up with nothing good to say again.  Why are you here?

Totally agree. No where does it say anything about the NFL, and it’s not like Vandy, ULL or Toledo are pumping out NFL talent.

If he goes to Vandy, you can’t hate because of the quality of the education.. Also, they are still the back up/fall back school because he committed here first.

Kind of ridiculous to decommit that quickly. Shouldn't have committed to begin with if mind can be changed that quickly.

You got no idea what the situation is.. it’s easy to post here being critical of a young man who has way more on his plate.. yes it sucks we lost a really good recruit. He is looking out for himself and his family, he doesn’t owe any of us nor UNT anything..

Sounds like he committed here because that is where he wants to go, but someone got in his ear.  Sure, a degree from Vandy is good depending on your area of interest.  I like that we are shoring up the defense with some JUCO's, but I would rather have hjghly regarded high school players.

Totally possible he meant the degree. If so though, why say 10 years and not 40 years? 10 years seems much more likely to be NFL than a non-football professional career.

Yep, because NFL rosters are lined with LB's from Toledo, ULL and Vandy.

If our biggest worry is kids passing on us because we don’t have enough UNT NFL players, then the staff is going about it completely wrong..

Yes it’s great we have 2 RBs and a LB in the NFL, but none of those coaches are still here that coached those players... if you want to present how UNT can help you get to the NFL, then the staff/Football staff should be pointing out who they have coached that has played at the next level.

Do you think a kid like the TE recruit Shorter would be happy to know SL coached Gronk? Who cares if Gronk isn’t a UNT alumni, he didn’t get to the NFL just because of playing at Arizona, he got there because SL coached him up.

Ek did this last year, he pointed out on Twitter he had coached 5 guys that played in the Cowboys/Redskins game last year.. The staff needs to point the positives or find positives and expand on them and not continue pointing out the very minimal NFL success with an LB, a FB, and scat back RB.

Elex Woodworth has the best shot of anyone on our roster right now.

😳First...how many times thru the decades were we as fans & alums made aware that NFL scouts were at our Mean Green football practice sessions or at Fouts Field (& now fabulous Apogee Stadium) for Game Days?

THIS:   ➡️ From DFW Airport it's only a 30 minute drive for any NFL Scout to make up to our Denton campus.  At some  NCAA D1 locales (even P5's)  the plane would have to circle the town & then said NFL scout yell "GERONIMO!" jumping out of the plane hoping said parachute unfurls!

OK, so Mr. Tyree  changed his mind---so what?  Maybe someone (another recruiter?) got to him & possibly even gave him a script to use for his excuse or.....maybe not.   They are kids, folks.  We all been there done that kid thing ourselves.   (Still...make one more pitch to him, UNT coaches).

🏉❇️❓BUT......A FUTURE NFL 'er LOST IN OBLIVION IN THE USA's 4'th LARGEST TV MEDIA MARKET, i.e., the NORTH TEXAS METROPLEX?  (I don't think so).

🏉❇️Former Dallas Cowboys Super Scout Gil Brandt was the first to use a computer for the NFL draft in the 60's.  If  Billy Bob Jumpback at Sippery Rock U was a potential NFL #1 or #2 draft choice, his  computer would reveal it.  Today the NFL draft is much more sophisticated.

🏉❇️No NFL talent will get left behind even in some backwater (Sippery Rock U?) college locale.    UNT "IS NOT" located in some forgotten location & gets coverage from every DFW area TV station along with the Denton Record-Chronicle, the Dallas Morning News & the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.  UNT is almost "media top heavy!"  (Considering.....we've gotten our share & methinks based on all happening now that is only going to get better in the next 10 years).

🏉 ❇️Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine periodical ranked our school higher than most of us can remember toward the end of the regular season.

THEN THERE WERE THESE 3 ❇️❇️❇️:                               University of North Texas Mean Green  greats Mean Joe Greene , Cedrick Hardman & Leonard Dunlap were all 3 NFL #1 draft choices after they finished their eligibility in Denton, Texas.  All played in the shadows of the SWC, but how many Southwest Conference schools during the same time produced 3 #1 NFL draft choices?   Answer:  None

HIgh Schoolers  & JUCO's change their minds. If he changed it again back to UNT I'd bet our coaches would still welcome him back with open arms. 17 & 18 yo kids just do things like change their minds. Didn't we all do that at some point & at the same age?

The average NFL career is 3.3 years sooooo. The nfl claims it’s 6 but who knows their numbers could be biased.

There are 1,696 active players during the year that are on an NFL roster, how many of those do you think have played 10 years? Probably a small amount but I can’t find the numbers

The NFL drafts guys every year from all levels of college football in various rounds. If you can play (with size and speed) you will be drafted. Mason Fine will NOT be drafted regardless of his stats.
